     It is sad to have to bring up the character of the dead in a bad light, but when that character is the direct cause of his death and racists want to ignore it and make him seem to be some innocent child, than it becomes something that needs to be discussed.

     Would anyone think it is ok to sucker punch someone in the nose and beat their head on concrete?  Somehow this is ignored along with Trayvon's history of fighting and drug use.  With the attitude of today's teens is it really that out of context to think he would attack Zimmerman?

     When you hear about this innocent child needing justice realize that the racists who are saying this are ignoring the fact that Trayvon was the aggressor and got what was legally coming to him when he attacked.

     One of the biggest lessons we should learn from this is that punks can"t get away with it.

Check it out:

     If you"re in your late teens and you get shot after assaulting a neighborhood-watch supervisor, and you want someone else to get blamed for your behavior, here are thirteen tips to make you look like an "innocent child" that loves Skittles, doing math and riding horses versus a gangbanger-in-waiting.

1. Don't have pictures on social media, or on your cell phone, of your holding guns like a gangsta.  If you do take pictures with firearms, make certain the weapon is held properly, away from the camera, with your finger off the trigger and it does not give off the I'm-a-criminal-in-training vibe.  Just a thought.

2.  Don't have multiple pictures of your inhaling weed floating around on either social media or in your cell phone where the police can retrieve them and use them against you.  This, too, hampers the "innocent child" motif.

3.  Also, when you do flip off the camera, go with the one-hand F-you, rather than the double finger fongool.  The double-finger F-you is too over the top.  One F-you should suffice as it'll show that you are a gentleman that has restraint and are an innocent soul, almost - child like.  Indeed, the one-finger F-you can easily be explained as innocuous, childhood banter between chums.  For example, "Hi, do you want to play?  No?  Okay, F-you.  Have a good day, talk to you later."  See?   The double F-you is harder to explain away as it gives more of an "F-off and die." madultish message via the two foul hand gestures which definitely are not childlike.  Just pray .about it and see what Jesus says.

4.  Don't call a neighborhood-watch volunteer a "creepy-ass cracker" just before you assault him.  If you do call someone this racist term, make certain you do not say it to your friend who's going to rat you out during a future cross examination in court.

5. While we're on the topic of friends, be careful to establish credible friendships with young men and young women who don't talk smack in court to lawyers, appear horrid on television, who can read cursive and they're not - uh? um? inconsistent in their testimony.

6. Try to limit how many times you say, "motherf*er" on Twitter as it looks un-childlike when it's thrust into the court of public opinion. See?

     Conservative radio host Dana Loesch delivered a fiery monologue while guest hosting the Glenn Beck Program Tuesday, decrying those who are protesting on behalf of Trayvon Martin for not demonstrating the same outrage at the unbelievable violence gripping Chicago.            

      “Youth are the biggest target in Chicago.  Black youth,” she pointed out.   “In 2012, Chicago had 100 more murders than New York City, 215 more than Los Angeles, and according to the Chicago Reporter and other statistics, from 2008 to 2012 half of Chicago’s nearly 2,500 homicide victims were killed before they reached their 25th birthdays.”
     “So where are the riots?  Where are the protests?” Loesch asked.  “I mean yes, apparently they are just killing black teenagers out there – but who is ‘they’?  According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, anywhere from 8,000 to 9,000 black Americans are killed every year…93% of these murders are committed by other black Americans.”
     She continued, her speech growing increasingly impassioned:
Now if all of these people out there protesting for Trayvon are so concerned about the death of a youth, then where have they been these past ten years?
     [...]
     If people really cared about the loss of black youth, they would be asking what the hell is going on in their communities.  They would be asking why black youth are dying at an epidemic rate.  This violence is a symptom of a problem.  A number of Chicago communities see half their residents living in poverty.  Schools are failing.  Economic opportunity is hard to find.  The family unit has been all but obliterated.
     …But you know, Chicago is just the progressive utopian dream, right?  This is President Obama’s backyard.  You have to ask why with the first black president are black Americans are one of the demographics – along with women – so adversely affected by his policies?  Why is dependence upon government assistance at an all time high?  Oh I see change, but there’s no hope to be found!  And why does it take a white girl with American-Indian ancestry [to ask] these questions?  Why is this not a topic of analysis on BET or One News or with Al Sharpton?  [Emphasis added]
     Loesch proceeded to laud the “amazing leaders in the black community” who are asking the same questions, but said that “all too often they’re drowned out by the outrage queens assisting the administration in the construction of a diversion to the problems plaguing it.”

     Once upon a time, I had a country. It was called America or the United States, "Columbia, The Gem of the Ocean," the land of the free and home of the brave.  The Founding Fathers envisioned it as a Shining City on a Hill.
     For more than two centuries, it blazed across the skies of history.  Now, its light flickers. Soon, it may be no more than a trail of dust and debris.
     It was the nation that taught humanity the lessons of republican government, personal sovereignty and inalienable rights.  It was the foe of tyranny which twice in the last century saved humanity from unspeakable horror.
     It was the shores of refuge where my Jewish grandparents and your Irish or Italian or Hispanic or Asian ancestors came for a life which was impossible and, indeed, inconceivable, anywhere else.
     It was a cornucopia of products and inventions that enriched the masses here and abroad and made life infinitely easier for millions.  It was the factory from whose assembly line rolled forth the incandescent light bulb, the telephone, the automobile, the airplane, the television, the refrigerator, the computer and on and on.
     It was a land of strength, determination, optimism, ingenuity and heroism.  It was a nation that led by example, inspired, liberated and defended – that was unbelievably generous to the destitute and disaster victims around the world.
     It was a country that produced giants – leaders touched by the Divine – like Washington, Adams, Lincoln, Coolidge and Reagan – inventors like Edison, Ford, Alexander Graham Bell, Charles Goodyear, the Wright brothers and Jobs, and artists like Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Cecile B. DeMille.
     It was a nation whose optimism was reflected in movies like "The Wizard of Oz," "Casablanca," "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," "The Best Years of Our Lives," "It's a Wonderful Life," and "The Ten Commandments."
     It was a nation that was born in blood, endured wars and depressions, slavery and segregation, bread lines, picket lines and quarantine signs, reversals and betrayals, gang warfare, urban riots and "peace" rallies.
     That was then.  Today, what are we?
      We may still dominate the world – industrially and militarily – but, increasingly, we are living off the accumulated capital of the past, drawing down on our legacy until nothing is left but a wistful memory of our former glory.
     We are a people drowning in an ocean of debt – $16.6 trillion, over a third in the past four years alone, a nation of indigent sheep blindly following politicians who lack the will to stop spending money we don't have (at an average rate of $3.86 billion a day).  We are a car without brakes full of happy drunks, oblivious to the fact that we are careening toward a cliff.
     We are a culture of brokenness.  For every 100 children born here, 60 will grow up in broken families.  We are killing the future – 1.1 million of them a year – in the name of a spurious right to choose.  Now, our fertility rate is the lowest since we began keeping records.
     Reagan said, "A nation that can't control its borders is not a nation."  We lost our sovereignty at the Rio Grande.
     While politicians dress up amnesties as a "pathway to citizenship," the nation is infiltrated by parasites, criminals, potential terrorists and the arrogantly unassimliable – and there's not a damn thing we can do about it. Washington, the courts and media multiculturalists tell us that attempts to stem the flow are hateful, bigoted and futile.
     We're a nation whose entertainment industry is a cavalcade of degeneracy – a steady stream of nudity, raw sexuality, bathroom humor, gut-wrenching violence and sadism. Instead of manufactured products, this toxic trash is now one of our principal exports.
     We are a nation with leaders whose answer to rampaging psychopaths is to disarm the innocent, leaving them at the mercy of thugs and lunatics, while congratulating themselves on their courage in standing up to the mythical gun lobby, as they travel about with armed guards and live in gated communities.
     We are a nation of serfs whose laws are written by geriatric ideologues in black gowns who have made a mockery of democracy and turned the Constitution into an excuse for tyranny and bizarre social experiments.
     We're a nation which betrays its historic friends while slobbering over its foes, whose response to the cold-blooded murder of 3,000 Americans was a decade-long orgy of tolerance and understanding for the death cult that animated the murderers, dubbed the "religion of peace."
     We're a country where a plurality now favors "solemnizing" an absurdity and calling the travesty "marriage" – an unparalleled corruption of language that is deconstructing an institution on which civilization depends.
     We are a republic riding a rising tide of secularism, rapidly turning away from the God in whose name we were founded.
     Our officials hypocritically take an oath of office on the Bible, while they rarely miss an opportunity to undermine its teachings.  We're a land of the lost where it's illegal to display the Ten Commandments on public property or erect a cross as a memorial to war dead, with a president who deliberately misquotes the Declaration of Independence, leaving out the crucial affirmation "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights."
     We are a people so consumed by envy that we habitually fall for the Democrats' con that society is a zero-sum game, that profits come at our expense and that Obama and his Congressional gang are all that stand between our precious programs and Republican budget-warriors determined to preserve "tax cuts for the rich" at any cost.
     We are a country of benefit-addicts who are hooked on handouts.  We tell pollsters that we want Washington to reduce spending rather than raising taxes – but not at the expense of my program or any program marketed as benefiting children, the elderly, the disadvantaged, the disabled, or any but tap-dancing, Anglo-Saxon millionaires.
     America 2013 is epitomized by Barack Hussein Obama, a man who so despises this nation and every thing it stands for that he can't even bring himself to say that there's anything objectively special about the country he leads (American "exceptionalism"), who showed his contempt for Middle America right at the start, when he characterized small towns as the haunts of religious zealots, gun nuts and bigots – a president who's determined to govern without Congress and outside the Constitution, who's committed to expanding government as rapidly as possible – for whom "revenue-enhancement" is a religion and mega-deficits are a ritual.
     Still, the man who occupies the White House, the way Germany occupied France during World War II, is a symptom, not the disease.  As a conservative congressman recently remarked: "I think we can survive another four years of this guy.  I'm not sure we can survive another four years of a country that would reelect this guy."
     It wasn't the media or the elites that ushered in the Age of Obama.  We the people put him in office and we kept him there.
     He's given us the longest sustained period of 7%-plus unemployment since the Great Depression, and we reelected him.  He's given us our only trillion-dollar deficits – one for every year he's been in office – and we reelected him.  Due to his war on energy, gas prices more than doubled on his watch, and we reelected him.  He nationalized health insurance, resulting in huge increases in premiums, and we reelected him.
     Due to a failure to mount a rescue operation (while he was off playing golf), a U.S. ambassador and three others died in Benghazi, and we reelected him.  His administration spent weeks denying it was terrorism, and we reelected him.  He called the Ft. Hood massacre (perpetrated by a Muslim militant shouting "Allah is great!") "workplace violence," and we reelected him.
     His Justice Department became an enabler of the New Black Panther Party, and we reelected him.  ATF ran guns to Mexican drug lords, and we reelected him.  He told businessmen who somehow managed to make a profit in his economy, that their success was due to the collective ("You didn't build that"), and we reelected him.  His family takes lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous vacations at our expense, while the ranks of the chronically unemployed swell, and we reelected him.
     No wonder zombie movies are so popular.
     Those of us who still believe in America are confronted with the appalling choice of two political parties.  One is run by a conglomeration of radicals, panhandlers and perpetually aggrieved minorities; the other has turned our values into campaign slogans which it sneers at in non-election years.  The Reptilian National Chairman recently castigated his party's base for "acting like Old Testament heretics" (sic.) by taking his party's platform seriously.
     We are fiscally and spiritually bankrupt.  We are rubes at the county fair who fall for the most absurd nostrums, and gape in awe at the panaceas that are peddled to us, who care more for "Dancing With The Stars" (while Obama dances with the Czars) and the latest mini-series than our nation's survival.
     We allow the decent and the honorable – the Boy Scouts, law-abiding gun owners, churchgoing Americans, entrepreneurs – to be vilified.  We arm our enemies ($1.5 billion in military aid to Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood), undercut our allies (dictating extinction borders to Israel), surrender our sovereignty and sell our inheritance for a bowl of government pottage.
     What can be done?  First, accept the reality that we will probably lose – that those of us over 40 may well be the last generation of real Americans.
     But in that acceptance, there is power and, perhaps, hope. In "Band of Brothers," a captain advises a private who admits his fear: "The only hope you have is to accept the fact at that you're dead and the sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier's supposed to function."
     America may yet beat the odds, though the prospects grow dim.  If not, what better than to die for than the country that once was?  While there are still words to write and speak, ballots to cast, flags to wave, cases to argue and noble gestures to make, duty requires us to stand fast.
     Like the Marines who died in a green hell in the Pacific and the 101st Airborne who fell at Bastogne – like those who stayed at machine gun emplacements until the last bullet was fired and were later found dead with the bodies of the enemy piled up around them – we must fight to the last.
     Our sacrifice will be an appeal to Heaven that may yet avert what now seems inevitable.  Or, perhaps, centuries hence, another people will arise to claim the title of "Americans," more worthy of it than our contemporaries.  May they be inspired by the example of the last of the old Americans.

    If the government's plan for getting people back to work is to provide incentives for not working, by granting 99 weeks of unemployment checks, without any requirement to prove that gainful employment was diligently sought, but couldn't be found - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.
    If you pay your mortgage faithfully, denying yourself the newest big-screen TV, while your neighbor buys iPhones, time shares, a wall-sized do-it-all plasma screen TV and new cars, and the government forgives his debt when he defaults on his mortgage - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.
    If being stripped of your Constitutional right to defend yourself makes you more "safe" according to the government - you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.
    What a country!
    How about we give God a reason to continue blessing America!

     Recent crisis have shown us that human nature goes from one end of the spectrum to the other.  Disasters bring out the Mother Theresa in some people and inner monster in others.  Hardening your house is something that you can quickly and easily do that will both protect your house from robbers now and looters after a disaster.

     (David's note:  Hardening a house is an exercise in cost/benefit analysis.  Rare is the house that I couldn't get into by stealing a dump truck and driving it through one of the walls and it isn't cost effective for most people to try to defend against that.  What you want to do is get the most bang for your buck/time and do things to prevent the most common and costly attacks.)

     Since doors and windows are the most common method of entry for thieves and looters, we'll start there.

     An important statistic to keep in mind is that 32% of burglars gain access to homes and apartments through an unlocked window or door!  As obvious as it seems, your first line of defense is going to be to keep all entry points securely locked.

     Alarm systems are great, but they won't stop a determined attacker and they will only work as long as you have battery capacity after a grid-down disaster.  Alarms (and alarm signs) are good for when you're not home, but they're particularly good for giving you a few seconds advance warning (and cause your intruder to pause) when you ARE home.

Window Security

     Ordinary multi-pane windows ARE tough, but not tougher than a brick, rock, garden tool, tire iron, or other readily available tools that an intruder can grab and use.

     Tempered Glass is an improvement over regular glass, as it is four times as strong as ordinary glass - but for the best security (and one that can ruin a looters day), head straight for security film, storm windows, storm shutters, or Lexan. The following descriptions will better explain why they are a superior choice for security than regular glass.

Security Film

     Security film is applied much like window tinting film and is applied to the inside of windows.  How it works is that although the window may break when something like a large rock is thrown at it, the glass pieces are held in place by the security film.

     The cost of security film is around $5 - $10 per square foot and should be professionally installed.  3M is the biggest player in this market and you want a security company to install it rather than a window tinting company - unless they understand security and how to install this specialized film.

Storm Windows

     Many storm windows have been engineered to withstand impacts of 100 mph, and can withstand winds of 200 mph.  Typically, they are made of two layers of glass with a middle layer of polyvinyl butaryl (PVB) sandwiched in-between.  The glass portion of a storm window may shatter with a sufficient impact, but the layer of polyvinyl butaryl will stop a holes from forming in the window, where a looter can get a purchase and get inside your home or apartment.

     The price of storm windows varies, depending upon the manufacturer and the size of your windows, but a rule of thumb is around $65 per square foot.  On the bright side, storm windows can reduce your insurance costs, but check with your insurance provider first.

Storm Shutters

     There are many styles for Storm shutters to choose from; accordion-style, or the style that swings open and closed, and then there is the style that rolls into place, which from a security standpoint is quite popular.

     For the purpose of security, installing storm shutters from the inside is a good approach.  The cost of storm shutters varies from $7 - $30 per square foot depending upon the style you choose and the manufacturer.

     Lexan can be purchased in different strengths - from impact resistant to bullet proof and as you'd expect, the cost goes up for bullet proof Lexan.  The negatives of Lexan is it isn't as user-friendly for those who plan to heat with passive solar and the price is prohibitive for most of us mere mortals at around $2,200 for a 48" width by 96" length sheet of 1.25" thickness bullet-resistant sheet.  Plus it typically needs to be professionally installed.

     You're probably familiar with Lexan and don't even know it - it's what Nalgene made it's rigid bottles out of until 2008.

     If you are on a budget and the above suggestions strains the pocket book too much, there's a sure-fire way to deter would-be looters from gaining access through windows for those with yards.  All it takes is a length of 2X4 and long nails.  Pound the nails through the wood, spaced several inches apart, then place the nail-embedded board face up and cover the board with a bit of surrounding dirt.  Anyone landing at your window to gain entrance will be hobbling away.  This same approach is used as a bear-deterrent.  I've used it myself in Idaho after a bear decided to investigate my cabin by pressing his nose against the sliding glass doors.  In this instance, I put the nail embedded 2 X 4's on the stairs leading up to the porch.

     (David's note:  I've used a similar method - also for bears, and one time in an attempt to keep raccoons out of trash - except I use sheets of plywood cut into 1" or 2"x4" sections instead of 2x4s.  Use whatever you have, but I prefer sheets over studs because the sheets are less likely to tip over and have more surface area.)

     Along these lines, you might plant thorny bushes below your windows if your windows are on the ground level. Rose bushes work well.

     You might also consider pre-cutting plywood to fit your windows.  Although they wouldn't be optimal for ordinary times because installing them will advertise your prepping and block light coming in to your home or apartment, they'll work in an emergency if looting and unrest grows out of control.

     Sliding glass doors and sliding windows can be made more secure by cutting dowels and setting them in the track.  This will not keep an intruder from shattering glass, but it will make it harder to open the door.

Door Security

     There is plenty that can be done to beef up your doors and the good news is it doesn't have to cost a  fortune!

Doors

     Door security should start with a stout door which means a solid wood door, or one made of aluminum or fiberglass.  Ideally, the door will not have a window installed in the door or glass side lights.  If it does, consider installing security film to the window(s)), and the door should have a peephole, one with a wide-angle feature that will allow you to see who is on the other side before opening.

Door Frames

     The door frame is just as important.  When possible, consider installing doors on a metal frame, which will make it more resistant to a burglar or looter trying to force their way in.

Deadbolts, Strike Plates & Hinges

     When it comes to deadbolts, look for an ANSI level 1 deadbolt.  But the deadbolt is only part of the equation because security measures should include a secure strike plate and hinges.  Look for a strike plate with as many holes as possible to allow for more screws that will help to secure the door from attempted break-ins.  When installing strike plates, using 3" screws will secure the strike plate MUCH better than shorter ones that can fail when being battered.  Likewise for hinges - they should also be installed with three screws and should always be installed to the inside of the door.

Extra Steps You Can take To Beef Up Doors

     Installing a door to swing outwards rather than inwards makes it much more difficult for the bad guy to gain entry, BUT this must be weighed against your regions climate conditions.  To wake up to discover a heavy snowfall has blocked your doorways with snow drifts and you're unable to get your doors open would not make for a great day!

     (David's note:  Personal experience in multiple states has proven to me just how difficult it is to buy an outward swinging residential door.  It's fire code for commercial buildings, but it costs more, is a custom order, and when you ask for them, you'll get blank stares like you're speaking Klingon.  If you can find them at a decent price, jump on them - but don't get too caught up on them.)

     One thing that you can do to help secure inward swinging doors is to use bars to reinforce the door.  David has and still does suggest and endorse the Buddy Bar Door Jammer and the Katy Bar.

     Consider putting secure locks on your bedroom doors as well. If an intruder gains entry into your home, the additional security of a lock will give you additional time to prepare to defend yourself.  Keep in mind that you want to balance the lock and other hardware with the actual door.  If you've got a hollow core door, you don't need to go too crazy on the locks & hinges - they just need to be strong enough that a leg/arm goes through the door instead of busting the door open.  This is actually one of the beauties of a hollow core door and hopefully, your attacker's limb gets stuck, punctured, or gives you an easy target if you're prepared to capitalize on the opportunity.

Other Deterrents

     A dog will alert you to a stranger's approach and that will give you time to protect yourself.  A large dog may have them running the other direction.  I've spoken to several police officers about what they felt was the # 1 deterrent against looters.  Each time they recommended a big dog with a no-nonsense bark.  It'll have an intruder retreating in no time.

     Having said this, all bets may be off during a time of civil unrest.  If food, water and supplies become scarce, folks will be desperate to survive.  In such circumstances, chancing a bite from a dog who is guarding their property may pale in comparison to starvation.  For that reason, a dog alone may not be enough protect you from looters, but it is another layer you can add for home protection.

     (David's note:  Most dogs are "watch" dogs and will bark and watch while bad guys do their thing.  Dogs don't need to be "guard" dogs to have value - they have tremendous value in giving you a few extra seconds to respond to intruders.)

     Installing barbed wire or razor wire atop fences would be an effective deterrent against looters.  Although it is illegal now, when SHTF and things heat up to the point where the police and the National Guard cannot respond to emergencies, it would offer a buffer against intruders.

     (David's note:  Loose coils of barbed wire on the INSIDE of the fence is much more likely to be legal than on the top of the fence.)

From Alaska ...

     My daughter and son-in-law were in L. A. last week from their home in  Anchorage.

 He is a foreman in the oil fields at ANWR. He has to fly his own plane to get to the job where he spends months at a time in the most God forsaken place this side of  Siberia  .      He confirmed everything that is in this story, and brought dozens of pictures for proof. Our environmentalist friends have forced gas prices up to an impossible rate, forcing us to buy oil from our enemies, for whatever reason that simply isn't true. 
     There is enough oil in AMWR to supply the  US  at our present rate of usage for more than 200 years. The space that ANWR occupies in Alaskais equivalent to a postage stamp in the  Mojave Desert  . 
     If you won't mind paying $5.00 a gallon in the very near future try to make sense of the following: 
Something you should know: Oil!!
     This is the best presentation on ANWR I have seen.

      I would like to add a little more information. A new pipeline across Alaska isn't required since the location for drilling in ANWR is about 160 miles from the North Slope Prudhoe Bay pipeline where it would be connected. I did not know this. 
     Second the wildlife love the pipeline since it is heated and provides a shelter during the worst times during the winter.

      Maybe another question should be asked. FIRST do you know what ANWR is? ANSWER: Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
