Conversation With a Farmer
Author Photo
By Charles Breiterman, Friday, September 4, 2009
Recently, an article in a large newspaper caught my eye with a quote from a farmer in words that were so perfect for the "comprehensive reform" amnesty crowd that it seemed like a lobbyist had coached him on what to say. So, over a 2-week period I tried to contact him, and finally caught up with him a couple of days ago. Our conversation illuminates how decent family farmers have gotten mixed up with the amnesty lobby.

The Wounded Land: New Video Discusses Impact of Immigration on the Environment
Author Photo
By Jennifer Magyari, Thursday, September 3, 2009
President Obama has set multiple guidelines to protect our land for future generations. Somehow the politicians who are most vocal about protecting our environment often do not want to address how current immigration policies are detrimental to this goal. This new video and a short summary video explain how the United States cannot reach its environmental goals unless it stops its policy of forcing large population growth through mass immigration.

Ted Kennedy's Immigration Legacy -- and why did he do it?
Author Photo
By Roy Beck, Wednesday, September 2, 2009
I was dining in downtown Boston with a long-time acquaintance of Teddy Kennedy at the very time the Senator died a week ago. We had discussed what had caused Kennedy to pursue immigration policies that so fundamentally changed America. I got the news when I awoke the next morning to the Massachusetts TV stations doing their eulogies. I decided to wait until after burial to share my thoughts.

Illegal Alien Commended By Federal Judge
Author Photo
By Rosemary Jenks, Tuesday, September 1, 2009
As Director of Government Relations for NumbersUSA, I am used to outrageous statements from Members of Congress. But I was truly shocked recently when I witnessed a federal judge commend an illegal-alien felon in federal court.

After Court Ruling, Obama Now Should Replace Illegal Workers With Unemployed Americans
Author Photo
By Roy Beck, Monday, August 31, 2009
The Obama Administration has dilly-dallied all year in carrying out the Bush regulation to require federal contractors to run new hires through E-Verify. Now that a federal judge has thrown out a court challenge by greedy businesses as essentially being nonsense, Obama should drop plans for watered down regs and use this as an opportunity to put far more Americans back to work than has happened through last winter's Stimulus Bill.

Central Theme of Verification in Your Hands Is Ripping Off Politicians' Fig Leaves
By Roy Beck, Friday, September 4, 2009
The central theme of your activism throughout this summer just ended was VERIFICATION. And you did quite a good job of pounding away at the theme of:
  • Verification to keep illegal aliens out of U.S. jobs, and
  • Verification to keep illegal aliens out of non-emergency government benefits such as a new expanded government health care system, and
  • Verification of any promises about immigration enforcement.
Oh, how our hearts soared here at the NumbersUSA headquarters when we read that the No. 2 most powerful person in the U.S. House of Representatives ran into a buzz-saw at his townhall meeting. And the grating sound that so annoyed Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland was in the audible shape of the word VERIFICATION.

One news account said that "Hoyer repeatedly assured that the bill would not pay for health insurance for illegal immigrants. Again, the crowd didn't buy it, screaming at Hoyer that the bill did not require verification of citizenship to participate in the public plan."

Politicians hate it when the public recognizes a fig leaf and rips it off to reveal the naked political truth -- in this case, the truth that although the House healthcare bill has words that discourage illegal aliens from participating, it has no words that provide for the verification that would actually prevent illegal aliens from fully participating.

We are seeing signs all across the country of well-informed citizens talking to their elected leaders with real knowledge and understanding -- sometimes more than the leader has -- about various immigration issues.

Generally, it is not the opening question that matters but the followup question that a citizen asks after the politician answers with a cold, calculated fig leaf.

Because you read these Friday newsletters, and read the blogs and news items posted on our home page daily, and read the explanatory information around the fax and phone action notes -- because you pay attention on a regular basis, you are equipped to force the politicians to clothe themselves in the truth or in their own cloak of dishonor.
