A Day Called X (Parts I & 2 of 2 + HD) (Sep57) 'A warning from the past'

"I remember one day at 08:04 hours local when my red phone lit & rang, from the other end came the monotone 'Command Center' voice, "Stand By ...Stand By ...  We have entered Defcon 2 at zero eight zero four hours.  Stand By to acknowledge."  After hitting the red button on the 'War Clock', starting its count from zero, I turned to the war book as sirens and klaxons rang outside .."  "Well, suffice it to say, appeasement didn't work then and it won't work today."  ~ rfh
