NRLC: House rejects pro-abortion smuggling effort -- November 7, 2009

NRLC letter to U.S. House regarding H.R. 3962 as amended -- November 7, 2009

Thanks to the tremendous support and action of pro-lifers like you, the House of Representatives on Saturday adopted the NRLC-backed Stupak-Pitts Amendment to H.R. 3962! But the battle is not over, and we need you help to make sure pro-abortion radicals are not successful in smuggling abortion coverage into healthcare reform.

Our work together helped remove two major pro-abortion components from the Health Care Bill:

  • The amendment would permanently stop the proposed new federal government insurance program, the "public option," from paying for abortion on demand.

  • The amendment would permanently apply "Hyde Amendment" restrictions to private insurance plans purchased using the new federal premium subsidies ("affordability credits").

The importance of this victory cannot be overstated--nor can the determination of the the White House and top Democratic congressional leaders who have been working hard to create a national federal government health plan that would fund abortion on demand, just as Obama promised Planned Parenthood. There will be numerous opportunities yet to come to try to smuggle in the anti-life propositions, starting in whatever bill the Senate comes up with.  But with your generous gift, we can defeat these efforts and save countless lives.
