I actually thought it was pretty good.  Although I think we can all assume where it went.

Re:  My Freedom

Dear President Obama:

Please don't take my freedom away from me.  I'm talking about my freedom given to me by the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States and God.  Also don't take my children's and grandchildren's freedom from them.

I served in the United States Navy for over 21 years to protect the freedom of my country that I love.  I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution.  I went in harms way so my fellow countrymen and women were safe at home.  I don't want to see that freedom afforded to me by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States lost to socialism and/or progressiveness.

I don't need the government to tell me what kind of car to drive.  I don't need the government to tell me what kind of health insurance I should have.  I am an intelligent adult who can think for myself.  I have never asked for a government handout.  I expect the U.S. Government to protect the United States of America.  Maybe you should review the oath of office you took in January.

It makes me so angry that the United States government had to bail out AIG, the banks, and the car manufacturers using our money not the federal government's money.  As you should know the federal government has no money.  The money you and Congress are using to rescue these failing and bankrupt companies is money the American people pay through my/their taxes to fund appropriate programs.  The United States government is not supposed to be running banks, insurance companies, and car manufacturing companies.  You said you were not in business of running companies but you used money we don't have to help these companies.  How does the government spending trillions of dollars bring us out of debt?

One of your campaign promises was to limit the size of the federal government; instead you have increased the size by appointing 32 czars and possibly more plus their staff and administrative costs to oversee programs/departments that already have a secretary, department head, etc.  The only country that had czars was Russia (the definition of czar is a king or emperor; a tyrant, autocrat; and one in authority) and look what happened to the last one.  Why are we paying salaries for needless positions when that money could be put back into Social Security and Medicare?  And by the way, where is that money coming from?  Is it you don't trust the people you put in charge like the Secretary of the Treasury so you need someone to watch him?

And where is the transparency you promised?  You and the Treasury have no idea what those failing bankrupted companies did with our money except pay those huge bonuses.  Apparently Washington D.C.'s definition of transparency must be different from the American citizens' definition.

It upsets me greatly that you continually apologize for the United States.  Why do you do that?  No other country does that.  We have nothing to apologize for.  America is not perfect but we are the greatest country on the planet.  We have fought wars to ensure other countries have their freedom.  Americans lives have been lost fighting in those wars.  American service people are fighting today to keep terrorists from reaching American shores.

Now I need to voice my opinion about your health care reform.  I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma that is cancer of the blood plasma, in May of 2005.
My health insurance is Medicare and TriCare for Life.  I pay $96.40 a month for Medicare, which is my primary insurance, and TriCare is my secondary insurance.  What right will some government bureaucrat have to tell my doctor and me what my treatment should be?  My cancer is incurable but it will not kill me.  I have a weakened immune system due to my cancer so some infection, etc., may kill me.  Also, I don't want the government telling my doctor to stop my treatment because of my age.  Where is my freedom to choose?  Your healthcare reform system will take more of the freedom that I served my country for to preserve.  What is the big rush on health care reform?  The government has been trying to reform health care for forty plus years and still nothing has been done.  Is it because you oppose torte reform?  Maybe if Congress passed a bill that put a limit on medical malpractice lawsuits health care reform may have a chance of passing if you and our elected senators and representatives were honest about the contents of the health care reform bill.  NO PUBLIC OPTION for one thing.  If the public option health care plan is so good why won't the politicians agree to have that as their plan?

You made a comment in April about not understanding the purpose of the "Tea Parties" that were being held around the country.   If you know your history, you have obviously forgotten that the "Tea Party" over two hundred years ago was against taxation without representation.  All the money being spent by you and Congress that this country doesn't have has to come from somewhere.  How can the federal government owe over 9 trillion dollars over the next 10 years?  We, the people, know that we will be taxed even though you say only the rich will be taxed.  But why should the rich be taxed to pay for programs that benefit the people who are illegal immigrants, people too lazy to work (you call them low income), and individuals who don't want to buy health insurance.  All your bills that have been passed by Congress in the last six months are "taxation without representation."  How can the Legislative Branch pass bills without reading them?  Don't they want to know what they are voting for?  SHAME ON THEM AND YOU!  If they can't read what they vote for maybe they are voting on too many bills that could wait.

Why do you, the Executive Branch, want so much power?  That is not what this country was founded on.  This great country was founded on the power of the people not the power of the government.

CONGRESS, The People's Representative. -Congress are in fact but the people, they return to them at certain short periods [and] are amenable at all times for their conduct… What interest, therefore, can a man have, under these circumstances, distinct from his constituents? -George Washington to Governor Benjamin Harrison in 1783.  The current Congress doesn't represent the people and neither do you as president.  Why do I say this?  Because the Congressmen and Senators only think about the people who contribute to their campaigns.  The people they are supposed to represent are invisible.

Sincerely,
S.A.M.
