You may have noticed the health care debate didn't slow down over Christmas and that Nebraska's Sen. Ben Nelson played a pivotal role in the Senate's passage of health care reform. His abortion amendment to the bill failed, yet he still voted for health care reform, only after the promise of what is now being referred to as the "Cornhusker Kickback." Now, amid opposition in his state and across the country, Sen. Nelson is defending himself on the airwaves with a controversial TV ad.

This week, our sister organization's Focus Action Update™ online video provides a fact-check of Sen. Nelson's claims against an independent analysis.

Shut out of health care reform deliberations
The White House and Democrat congressional leaders have once again secluded themselves behind closed doors to draft the final version of health care reform, which will determine the fate of the Stupak amendment to the House bill, which prohibits public dollars from funding abortions.

But by holding these meetings in private, pro-life Americans, congressional Republicans and "problematic," pro-life Democrats are being shut out of the process. Congressional leadership's strategy is to bypass a traditional conference committee process to merge the House and Senate bills, and instead, negotiate in secret and quietly send the Senate bill over to the House and back again.

Despite the best efforts of congressional leadership to ignore the men and women they were elected to represent, I urge you to continue to pray for the men and women elected to represent us and for God to move their hearts to protect life.

Hear the truth, not misinformation
In these final days of the health care debate, we remain committed to keeping you informed of what's happening in Washington, D.C., and providing you with the tools you need to separate fact from fiction in this crucial debate. Thank you in advance for your prayers on behalf of our nation and the legislators who will soon be making a final decision on health care reform.
