o'cap'n tax - Next up for Obama: Cap & Tax

[add by rff:  o'backdoor & his cronies plan to make huge "windfall" profits by controlling carbon emmissions through a Chicago based exchange and also off-shore drilling via a George Soros connected Brazilian oil conglomerate!" It's all 'pick pocket' politics. ]

From: John Thune  Sent: Friday, June 18, 2010 Subject: Next up for Obama: Cap & Tax

As you know, Tuesday night the President addressed the nation from the Oval Office.  I join him in praying for the people of the Gulf Coast at this difficult time.

The ongoing oil spill in the Gulf is an environmental crisis of historic proportion.  BP and the administration have clearly failed to adequately respond to the situation.  But now President Obama and Washington Democrats are hiding behind the spill in their latest attempt to raise taxes.

The Obama/Pelosi/Reid "solution" for every problem is more spending and higher taxes.   They already have their eyes on their next goal - one that would increase your utility bills and raise the price of gasolineIn his speech, the President used the innocuous term "clean energy" to describe his plan.  But like so many Washington plans of late, the devil is in the details.

Help me stop President Obama?s energy tax plan.  Sign my petition and help me spread the word about the dangers of this plan.

Last week, as oil continued to spill into the Gulf, the Senate debated an Obama administration plan to levy a new backdoor energy tax.  President Obama and his team want to unilaterally cap CO2 emissions without explicit Congressional authority.  Democrat defenders of the Obama plan didn't want to talk about the impact such a cap will have on energy prices or our economy.  Instead they came to the Senate floor with pictures of the oil spill.  But President Obama?s backdoor energy tax won't stop the oil currently gushing into the Gulf, and it won't prevent a future disaster.

Unfortunately, Senate Democrats refused to block the Obama backdoor energy tax.  The administration is now likely to move forward with its plan while Congress begins to debate even more energy taxes.

The goal of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid energy plan is increased energy prices.  Proponents hope that by increasing the cost of energy, Americans will use less.  But as we struggle to overcome an economic crisis, now is not the time for new taxes and government-forced energy inflation.

I need your help to stop this legislation. Please sign the petition and spread the word today.

President Obama and his allies aren't hiding the fact that the goal of their legislation is to increase energy prices.  During the 2008 campaign, President Obama said:
Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. "Because I'm capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it " whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations.  That will cost money.  They will pass that money on to consumers.
The President also said, "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times.
The President's senior advisors agree:
  • Treasury Secretary Geithner said, "[increasing] the cost of energy" is necessary if you're going to change how people use energy."
  • Office of Management and Budget Director Orszag testified that price increases would encourage people and businesses to make investments and behavioral changes that reduced CO2 emissions.?
American families simply cannot afford President Obama's cap and tax plan.   A better way to grow our economy and create jobs would be to pass an all-of-the-above national energy plan to expand domestic energy production, including nuclear power, wind energy, bio-fuels, clean coal technology and other alternatives.

Thank you for your help your support as we fight to defeat this job-killing legislation. John Thune. United States Senator
