Transcript of the portion of the Mo.25Jul11 La Raza speech given by Obama about "usurping Congress & the Constitution.":
• President Barack Obama: "Now I know some people want me to bypass congress and change the laws on my own..."• -Applause-
• Obama: Believe me, and...(smile) and, and, and believe me right now dealing with congress...the idea...
• Crowd erupts saying: "Yes You Can! Yes You Can!"
• Obama laughs and smiles
• Crowd gets even louder: "Yes You Can! Yes You Can!"
• Obama: But, but, but believe me...uh...believe me the idea of doing things on my own are very tempting.
• Crowd laughs
• Obama: I promise you, not just on immigration reform...
• Crowd laughs
• Obama: But that's not how...that's not how our system works...
• Lady in the crowd: Change it!
• Obama: ...that's not how our democracy functions.

Quote from GBTV.com, "President Obama gave a speech on July 25th to La Raza and admitted that "the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting" when it came to dealing with Congress over the debt deal.  And while he added the caveat that our democracy doesn't work like that – the crowd was cheering the possibility of Obama side stepping Congress and doing things his own way.

The whole scenario reminded Glenn and Pat of (nerd alert) the scene in the Star Wars prequel where Palpatine grants himself emergency powers – effectively making him The Emperor – as the Senate cheers on.  Pat even played audio from the scene where Natalie Portman's character says,
"This is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause."
