GORDON: Obama's bipolar approach to terrorism

So much for "not spiking the football."  Though President Obama used that analogy to compare mildly excessive football celebrations with his refusal to release photos of a dead Osama bin Laden, the impeccably timed visit to Afghanistan exactly one year later more closely resembled the Green Bay Packers' "Lambeau Leap" into the stands, or the "salsa dance" by the New York Giants' Victor Cruz in the end zone.

HENRIKSEN: An echo of regrettable history

From Afghanistan on Tuesday evening, President Obama addressed Americans in their homes thousands of miles away on the one-year anniversary of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden in neighboring Pakistan.
"They do that because they were born that way."  If you say that about homosexuals, you are tolerant and realistic.  If you say it about blacks, you are racist (unless you're black yourself).  If you say it about women, you may or may not be sexist, depending on who is manning (or womanning) the feminist battle stations.
Americans witnessed a bizarre made-for-TV event Tuesday night.  President Obama travelled 14,000 miles to Afghanistan to engage in a midnight marathon of election-year photo-ops.  Never has U.S. national security been so twisted to fit a personal political agenda.
There's a scene in the movie "Bull Durham" where pitcher "Nuke" LaLoosh, jubilant over retiring the side in order, is dressed down by catcher "Crash" Davis suppliers.

FIELDS: Engulfed by a rising tide of mediocrity
When my father arrived in America at the age of 3, he spoke two languages.  Neither was English.  He was a grade-school dropout after his mother made him wear his elder sister's shoes because he had none of his own.  He said he was a graduate of the "school of hard knocks."

The Obama administration is doing its utmost to promote the fortunes of the Islamist parties in Egypt. A State Department official declared that with the rise of these radical groups after the Arab Spring, "people who once might have gone into al Qaeda see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism."  They see this as a victory.  The problem is, so do the terrorists.
..
To anyone who believes in the Western concept of freedom, Islamism by its nature cannot be legitimate.  The White House needs to answer the question: If Islamism is a legitimate political movement, should it come to America, and if so, how soon?
