Rush Limbaugh said Tuesday that Democrats are on "suicide watch" since new polling indicates GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney has closed the gap on President Barack Obama.
On Monday, a Pew Research Center poll had Romney leading Obama 49 percent to 45 percent among likely voters. And Tuesday, a Gallup survey had Romney leading 49 percent to 47 percent among likely voters.
"Pew poll. Democrats. Suicide watch," the conservative commentator said on his radio program Tuesday, according to a transcript. "Something about this poll, because I just want to be complete in reporting it to you. There is a plus-five Republican sample in this poll."
He added: "Ladies and gentlemen, if you live in a liberal city, I think you should avoid walking under tall buildings where liberals live. They're jumping out the windows today like crazy."
"Did Obama just throw the entire election away?" The Daily Beast's Andrew Sullivan, an Obama supporter, asked in a Monday night post about the tightening polls (which many attribute to Obama's poor performance at last week's first presidential debate in Denver).
"The Pew poll is devastating, just devastating. Before the debate, Obama had a 51 - 43 lead; now, Romney has a 49 - 45 lead. That's a simply unprecedented reversal for a candidate in October," Sullivan wrote. "Before Obama had leads on every policy issue and personal characteristic; now Romney leads in almost all of them. Obama's performance gave Romney a 12 point swing! I repeat: a 12 point swing."
He had not cooled down by Tuesday afternoon, when he wrote, "Obama needs to get off his f—king pedestal and get some work done."
Limbaugh advised his listeners to stay away from Sullivan today.
"If you happen to know where Andrew Sullivan lives, don't get anywhere near. I mean, it is really getting dangerous out there," Limbaugh said.
