Scold Majority Leader Reid for Immigration Name-Calling!
During a recent appearance on a Spanish television news program, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid accused those who do not favor granting amnesty to illegal aliens as being "anti-immigrant." As the leader of the U.S. Senate, Harry Reid should realize there is a drastic difference between those who enter our country through the proper legal channels and illegal aliens who disregard our laws and sovereignty.
DEAR Senate Leader Reid,
Your performance on Univision's "Al Punto" was absurd. Throwing around the term "anti-immigrant" does not help the situation.
On "Al Punto," you said, "We are committed to do comprehensive immigration reform, the President supports us on that, but I tell everyone we can't do a bill unless we get some Republican.... I believe, as has been indicating in all the polling, that even people who are Hispanics who identify as being Republicans, are walking away from the Republicans. This is an anti-immigrant party and is very clear."
I have two problems with what you said. First, President Obama said that name-calling has no place in politics or political discourse. Your use of the term "anti-immigrant" falls into this category.
Second, you assume that being anti-illegal immigration makes a person anti-immigrant. I am in favor of securing the borders and against any amnesty or "pathway to citizenship" for illegal aliens. Does this make me "anti-immigrant."
I suggest you take President Obama's advice and keep the immigration debate civil.
Sincerely,
(Your Name Will Appear Here)
