How long have you owned a car?
Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield, MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death last year ...at the age of 102 ! He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. Just thought you'd like to see it. He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years) Just thought you would find this of interest....
In 1928, Allen Swift, Springfield, Massachusetts, received a new 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father as a graduation gift. Over the years, he put 170,000 miles on it, and drove it until October , 2005, when he died at the age of 102. Mr. Swift set a record for being the oldest living person to have owned a car from new. The vehicle was left to one of the Springfield Museums, in addition to $1 million dollars to create a new history museum. See the story on page 76 here .
The Rolls is said to still run smoothly, and as you can see from the picture, was kept up beautifully. This story is making its way around the internet, and is listed on several websites. How great to know that Mr. Swift's father had many years to watch his son cherish and care for his gift. Sometimes the thought that you put into an expression of love and pride can last for a lifetime.
