     Now that it's confirmed in the minds of all but those terminally afflicted with Bush Derangement Syndrome that rising gas prices this time around aren't the fault of two oil men in the White House, barring the miraculous, the price of gas will be one of President Obama's major election year opponents:

     Gasoline prices are rising at an almost unheard-of pace, and painfully so in California, where the cost for a fill-up now exceeds $4 a gallon in five cities and is approaching that dreaded mark in numerous others, including San Jose and Oakland.   The statewide average of $3.96 on Friday is 25 cents higher than just a month ago and 46 cents more than this time last year. The price jumped a nickel from Thursday, a huge increase, as day-to-day changes are usually measured in fractions of a penny.
     Some oil analysts predict $4.50 a gallon or more by Memorial Day on the West Coast and major cities across the United States such as Chicago, New York and Atlanta. Prices in that range could be a major issue in the presidential campaign, especially if they slow the nation's economic recovery.

     "I give $4.50-per-gallon gasoline on the West Coast better than 50-50 odds," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com. "Some stations could be closer to $5 in remote areas. … It's just a matter of time before motorists are again ransacked at the pump."
     The rising price of gas hasn't escaped the notice of Washington. The Associated Press reported Friday that the threat of higher gas prices could lead President Barack Obama to authorize the sale of oil from the country's emergency reserves, as he did once before.
     "We never take options off the table," White House spokesman Jay Carney said Friday.

     The emergency reserve option will be more on the table than ever if we're heading into autumn without a significant price drop.
     While rising gas prices can be blamed on a plethora of factors, points on which the Republican nominee should be relentless are Obama's opposition to opening up ANWR, the EPA blocking drilling elsewhere in and around Alaska, the Gulf moratorium, Keystone Pipeline denial, and the list goes on. Couple that with billions in loans to countries like Columbia so refineries there can be upgraded there while refineries in the US and Europe are being shuttered and Canada tries to send their oil to China instead of getting the runaround from US officials, and Obama is forced to deal with an election year headache that he didn't seem to mind bringing on himself for the sake of forcing a "green economy" into existence.
     On the topic of energy independence, here's some common Democrat rationale for opposing ANWR drilling:

"There won't be a thimble of oil for seven to 10 years," said a spokesman for Democrats on the Senate Energy Committee.

   That was said almost eight years ago. I thought Democrats were the ones billing themselves as the "forward thinkers."

     But it's not even March yet.  Amazing things can happen as elections approach.  By then, if taxpayer subsidies keep getting upped on Volts, Obama might be handing them out like lollipops on the campaign trail and giving each voter a crisp $20 bill just to take one.

     This is the earliest the average price for regular has crossed $3.50 a gallon.  That means the national average could top $4 a gallon by May.

     And we all know here in Southern California that means even higher prices.  So if the trend continues, gasbuddy.com is predicting $4.70 a gallon by Memorial Day in LA.

     "It's absolutely insane.  $4.70?  That's crazy," said driver Casey Michael.

     Experts say at $4 a gallon, gas prices can start to grate on our still sluggish economic engine.  This despite the fact that the

     But globally, China and India are using more.  Couple that with those continuing tensions in the middle east and you've got inflated prices.

     And consider this: analysts say for  every 50-cent increase in gas prices, $150-billion gets sucked out of the economy.

     In fact, it's estimated that a typical American family spent a record $4,155 topping of their tanks in 2011, that's more than 8 percent of what the median family earns, and represents the highest share of family income since 1981.

     "You could use that money for so much other stuff," said driver Paige Flannery.

     But it's not just the family budget that takes a hit.  It is costing businesses more to make their products, to get their planes up in the air and even to get those goods into stores.

     All of that ultimately affects how much you pay for almost everything you buy.

     And just in case you are wondering, the lowest gas prices in the nation belong to Wyoming at $2.94 a gallon.

     The U.S. Department of Energy provided $2.4 billion to clean-energy companies with ties to the former firm of Sanjay Wagle, a venture capitalist who was a Barack Obama fundraiser during the president’s 2008 campaign.
     DOE provided the money over a three-year period to clean-energy companies in which Wagle’s former firm, Vantage Point Venture Partners, had invested, according to The Washington Post, which reported that Wagle left his California firm to join DOE shortly after Obama’s election.
     Moreover, the Post found that some $3.9 billion in federal grants and financing were provided to 21 companies backed by firms with connections to five Obama administration staffers and advisers.
     While the White House sought to play down the relationship between staffers and advisers with venture capital ties, David Gold, a venture capitalist and critic of Obama’s investments in clean technology, said that it would be naïve to believe there wasn’t some subtle influence.
     “To believe those quiet conversations don’t happen in the hallways — about a project being in a certain congressman’s district or being associated with a significant presidential donor — is naïve,” Gold said. “When you’re putting this kind of pressure on an organization to make decisions on very big dollars, there’s increased likelihood that political connections will influence things.”

     In the 3rd century, Emperor Claudius II was faced with defending the Roman Empire from the invading Goths.
     He believed men who were not married made better soldiers so he forced the military to ban traditional marriage.
     He also forced the Senate to deify the former Emperor Gallienus, including him with the Roman gods to be worshiped.
     The ten major persecutions of Christians in the first three centuries rendered historical records scarce, but the legend is that Saint Valentine was a priest or bishop in Italy.
     When the Emperor demanded the Church violate its conscience and worship pagan idols, Bishop Valentine refused to comply.
     Valentine risked the Emperor's wrath by standing up for traditional marriage, and secretly marrying young men and women.
     Saint Valentine was arrested, dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and then have his head cut off on FEBRUARY 14, 269AD.
     While awaiting execution, the story is he prayed for the jailers' sick daughter, who miraculously recovered. He wrote her a note and signed it, "from your Valentine."
     In 496 AD, Pope Gelasius designated FEBRUARY 14th as "Saint Valentine's Day."
     The Greek name for Christ, Χριστός, begins with the letter "Chi" written as an "X," which is why X-mas became the abbreviation for Christmas.
     In Medieval times, the "X" was called the Christ's Cross, or as it was later pronounced, "Criss-Cross."
     The Christ's Cross was a form of oath, from whence "crossing one's heart" was derived.
     Just as people would swear upon a Bible, then say "so help me God" and kiss it, people would sign a document next to the Christ's Cross then kissed it as a promise before God that they would keep the agreement, a practice which has come down to us as "sign at the X".
     This is the origin of signing a Valentines' card with "X"s and "O"s to express a pledge before God to be faithful, sealed with a kiss of sincerity.

     RUSH: TIME Magazine:  "Last year, a federal program paid out $1.6 billion to cover free cell phones and the monthly bills of 12.5 million wireless accounts. The program, overseen by the FCC and intended to help low-income Americans, is popular for obvious reasons, with participation rising steeply since 2008, when the government paid $772 million for phones and monthly bills."  Can I give you the numbers here again?  In 2008, the federal government paid $772 million for phones and monthly bills.  Since 2008, since Obama, $772 million has become $1.6 billion.  It's more than doubled.

     "But observers complain that the program suffers from poor oversight, in which phones go to people who don?t qualify, and hundreds of thousands of those who do qualify have more than one phone. Last summer, a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review story shed some light on a government program that relatively few Americans knew existed.  The Lifeline program provides low-income Americans with free cell phones."   They're not smart phones at least, but that's probably coming.  "It covers up to 250 free minutes each month. As many as 5.5 million residents in Pennsylvania alone could qualify for the program, which is funded primarily by the Universal Service Fund fee added to the bills of land-line and wireless customers."

     So all of us are paying $1.6 billion in our phone bills to cover free phones and accounts for 12.5 million people. (interruption) Well, I guess you could probably apply to get you a government phone with your government mortgage payout.  Yeah, you should go for it.  You don't even have to be underwater.  You can apply.  Some of these people have more than two phones, more than two accounts.  That's the thing.  Obama's stash.  What else is in there? 

     What else is gonna be made available to people before November of this year?  What other goodies are people going to be able to have just for asking or just for being an American or just for being one of the 99%?  Or just for being screwed by the rest of the country, just for being screwed by this unfair Constitution and Declaration of Independence.  This is how we're gonna make it up to you for all of the rotten treatment you've had since this country was founded, $1.6 billion, free cell phones and the monthly bills, one and a half million wireless accounts, that's up from $772 million.

     RUSH: This free cell phone and minutes program, it's called SafeLink. This is the program I just told you about, $1.6 billion totally from taxpayers and your phone bills, to pay for 12.5 million Americans to have free cell phones and free cell usage of 250 minutes a month. And this, for those of you watching on the Dittocam, is one of the advertising techniques. You can find this in websites. They buy space in magazines and so forth, and this is one of the many ways in which you can apply. From the SafeLink website: "How to qualify: If you already participate in other state or federal assistance programs such as federal public housing," you're qualified.

     "If your total household income is at or below 135% of the poverty guidelines set by your state and/or the federal government..." Sounds to me like they're trying to "trick" poor people into getting free phones here, just like they "tricked" people into getting mortgages. This is a trick! They're tricking people into getting free phones. "And if you refer a friend to the program..." They are advertising this, and they are trying to expand this! You know, the point of government assistance ought to be to remove people from it. But with the Democrat Party and Obama, the objective is to increase the number of people, and they use you.

     Not you, obviously, but they use other people who are dependent to recruit others. In the cell phone program, "You can get an additional free 100 minutes if you recommend a friend." That's right. It says plain as day here: "Pay nothing!" exclamation point. "No bills, no contracts, no credit checks, no hidden fees. Don't worry, you can't go over your free minutes. You can purchase more if you need them, and you can get a hundred free minutes by recommending a friend to the program." They've spent $1.6 billion, up $772 million since 2008. SafeLink is one of these free Lifeline providers (they're the biggest, in fact) and, if you get food stamps, you can get a free cell phone. If you get food stamps -- and what is it, 48, 49 million Americans are on food stamps?

     This is the "food stamp president," as Newt properly says. You qualify for a free cell phone.      Eric Holder, the top law enforcement officer in the nation has a proven track record of lying to Congress and the American people.  Some members of Congress have been debating on whether or not to cite the US Attorney General for contempt of Congress for his testimony, or lack thereof, before them on Operation Fast and Furious.

     Ever since the botched guns to Mexican drug cartels fiasco was made public, documentation proves that Holder has continuously lied about his knowledge of the operation.  Even when presented with irrefutable evidence of his knowledge, he sat before Congress and lied to their faces without batting an eye.

     I watched part of Holder's testimony before Congress and his whole mannerism was that of a pathological liar.  One of my close family members is a pathological liar who believes their lies to be the truth once they leave their lips and it is virtually impossible to convince them otherwise.  I confronted the family member with a tape recording of their lie and they stood there and denied it was them or the tape was real.  I saw that same trait in America's top cop.

     Yet, most likely without realizing it, Holder actually told the truth for once when he admitted to Congress that Obama wants to reinstate a ban on assault weapons,

     "This administration has consistently favored the reinstitution of the assault weapons ban. It is something that we think was useful in the past with regard to the reduction that we've seen in crime, and certainly would have a positive impact on our relationship and the crime situation in Mexico."

     Chris Cox, Executive Director of the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action, summed up Holder's statement and actions this way,

     "The Obama administration — particularly Eric Holder's Justice Department — oversaw an epic scandal whereby our own federal government illegally funneled thousands of firearms into the hands of Mexican drug lords.  This contributed to the death of one U.S. Border Patrol agent and hundreds of Mexicans.

     "Despite being head of the Justice Department and our nation's chief law enforcement officer, Eric Holder claims he doesn't know how or why this scandal occurred, or even who under his charge may have authorized it.  He also refuses to turn over critical documents to congressional investigators that could help prevent something this tragic and corrupt from ever happening again."

     Therefore, Obama and Holder are confident that if they can ban a large number of the legal firearms that law-abiding Americans use every day for self-defense, hunting, and recreational and competitive target shooting, it will help solve Mexico's crime problem."

     Cox's synopsis is spot on target.  The only thing I would add to that is that Holder should not only be removed from office, but that he also needs to be admitted to a mental hospital where he can be treated for his pathological lying.  Then he needs to be sentenced to an appropriate time in prison for his actions and crimes against the American people and especially against the family of murdered Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

Spotting Concealed Weapons and Profiling

     Staying alert includes being able to spot a person who is or may be carrying a concealed weapon.

     As you observe people there are certain things you should be looking for that may indicate the presence of a weapon.

     For example: As a person walks, only one of his arms swings. His coat is left open in cold weather. A shirt is buttoned only at the top and the tail is hanging loose over his waistband. A person sees you, looks down toward his hip, then avoids eye contact.

     According to Robert Gallagher, a former NYPD detec tive who studied over 1,000 arrests by New York City cops, people who try to conceal guns develop special behavioral characteristics.

     Some of these traits are now taught to the U.S. Secret Service agents for crowd assessment during presidential and dignitary protection assignments.

     According to Sgt. Robert Stash, a gang specialist with Chicago PD, most people are right-handed and when they greet other people they use their right hands.

     Let's say you see a bunch of gangbangers hanging around and someone walks up and greets them using his left hand. It could signal the presence of a weapon.

     People who hide an illegal gun in their pocket tend to hold on to it to prevent its outline showing through the clothing. Someone with a gun in his waistband tends to keep a hand in the nearest pocket to hold the gun and keep it from falling below the waistband.

     People who carry an illegal handgun tend not to use a holster. If they have to drop the gun and run, they don't want to be caught with and have to explain an empty holster.

COMMON METHODS OF CARRY INCLUDE:

• A right-front pocket or the appendix area of the waist-band. Over 80% of armed suspects carry their guns in this location, according to Gallagher.
• A right-rear pocket or the waistband between the right hip and the small of the back.
• The left hip waistband (cross-draw position) is the least popular.

     Shoulder, ankle or other exotic holsters are seldom used by street gangsters.
     When looking for concealed weapons, look for things that don't look right.

     Look for a jacket that doesn't hang naturally. An uneven hemline may indicate the presence of a gun in the coat pocket. When an armed person moves, the heavy object will swing. Being aware of this, a subject may hold on to the hem near where the gun is to keep it steady.

     I have this problem with my SigTac coat because the holster is on the chest. A buddy of mine sews holsters into his coats under the armpit and it allows the coats to hang evenly, even when un zipped.

     Look for a mode of dress inconsistent with the weather - a coat, jacket or vest on a hot day. Or a coat left open on a cold, windy day may provide quick ac cess to a gun.

     A shirt draped over dress slacks may offer conceal ment to a handgun. Unnatural bulges, a jacket carried over the arm, a hat being carried instead of worn, all suggest the possibility of a weapon.

     Body language signals to watch for:

     We tend to use our elbow or forearm to press, touch or make contact with the weapon to confirm its presence.

     We tend to hold a pocket where the gun is from the outside. We tend to pull up pants or adjust our clothing repeatedly to counteract the weight of a gun and its effects on clothing.

     A gun strapped to an ankle or stuffed in a boot may cause the person to favor that leg so as not to jostle the gun more than necessary. When we walk, we may allow the non-gun arm to swing naturally and restrain the other arm to steady the gun or hide any tell-tale bulge.

     We may walk with our gun arm held away from the body, to avoid banging into the gun and possibly dislodging it.

     If you carry weapons, you'll pick up some tells just because you're being hyper-critical of yourself.

     Personally, I find that I pull down or even out my shirt tails when I get out of my car to make sure that my in-waist-band hol ster is covered.

     I am also careful to only reach up to high shelves with my left hand and to bend down at the knees instead of at the waist so that the butt of my firearm doesn't print on my shirt.

     Another tell that I have is that when it's really windy and I'm wearing a shirt that flaps too much in the wind, I find that I hold my arm somewhat awkwardly to keep my firearm from showing.

     When I'm carrying in a compression shirt holster, with my firearm under my armpit, I find that I push my arm out from my body to move it back wards.

     With knives, if I don't see a clip sticking out of a pocket, I look for worn pocket corners and a tell tale bulge in the pocket.

     Since I am a big fan of neck knives, I look for cord age or non-decorative chain around the neck.

Don't be afraid to profile.

     Profiling isn't foolproof, but it does tip the odds in your favor. A few things to look for:

Face, neck, and hand tattoos.
       Especially tear drops or "mean" looking tattoos. Keep in mind that they're permanent, so the tat toos could be a reminder from a former lifestyle. I have known several very gentle men through the years who still have gang and prison tats from their younger years.
 "I'm .. Bad." look and swagger.
       Oftentimes it's a false front, but it can also be a tool to get psyched up.
 Red or blue bandana.
       Specifically on the head, on the arm, or hanging out of a waist band or pocket. Keep in mind that bandanas are great survival tools and lots of people carry them.
 Age, sex, and dress.
       The fact is that most violent criminals are young males who dress like street thugs. It's important to note that after the collapse of the peso in Argentina, middle aged muggers regularly dressed in suits and hit targets in the banking & business districts.
"Aware" vs. "Unaware."
       Criminals, law enforcement, military, and preppers all have the trait of being more aware of what's going on around them than the average person. If you spot someone who is obviously aware of what's going on around them, there's a pretty good chance that they're either a potential ally or potential enemy and worth further exami nation.
Response to authority.
       When uniformed law enforcement enters a crowd ed room, try to look at the facial expressions of others in the room. You'll quickly notice what a polarizing effect they have.
 Counter-profiling.
       One of the things that I try to do is appear as if I'm not as aware as I actually am so that people won't profile me as being switched on. If I am with other people and can sit facing a wall that has a mirror on it, I will. I use my peripheral vision to profile people. I smile a lot and try not to look serious. I try to wear clothes that are more hiking/camping rather than tactical.
       And then there are certain facial expressions to be aware of.
       Bad guys with guns and bad intentions often avoid eye con tact until they are ready to strike. They believe that by avoiding eye contact you will be less likely to pay any attention to them. They also believe that by avoiding eye contact you will be less likely to identify them at a later time.
       Bad guys planning their attack may tend to sneak a quick glance at you, and then look away. They want to know if you've noticed them and are showing any signs of heightened awareness.
       The bottom line is this: You should assume everyone you come in contact with is armed until you're satis fied they are not. Anyone exhibiting any of the cues described above is considered a possible threat until you are comfortable they are not.
       This doesn't mean you need to be paranoid, worried, or that you have to give everyone a thorough examina tion to look for weapons. It just means that you accept the fact that everyone you meet may have a weapon...whether for good purposes or bad purposes.
       When someone approaches you, quickly observe their hands for weapons, their waist area for bulges or signs of concealed weapons and their body language for signs of weapons or bad intentions. If you're more than 3 feet away, you can do this with your peripheral vision without taking your eyes off of their face.
       Keep distance between you and anyone you consider suspicious. Be prepared to use cover. Know your op tions and decide in advance how you will handle any problem.
       Don't just look, observe. Watch for body language and facial cues. Bad guys usually aren't too bright and they almost always tell you in advance what they are up to, you just have to know how to read the signs.
