The Debt is Killing Us, Says DioGuardi press conference at the national debt clock in NYC,
NEW YORK (November 1, 2010) - Joe DioGuardi, Conservative and Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate, today held a press conference at the national debt clock in New York City, where he discussed the ways Washington is concealing the real U.S. debt.
"The national debt clock is wrong," said DioGuardi. "It says $14 trillion, but that is only part of the sum. In reality, the debt exceeds $63 trillion - something more Americans would know if Washington stopped using accounting tricks and gimmicks to try to convince voters otherwise. Kirsten Gillibrand is working with other Washington insiders to be sure that America doesn't know the extent of our national debt. Gillibrand is lying to the American people and in the process, jeopardizing the American dream."
A Certified Public Accountant, DioGuardi has worked to highlight the accounting gimmicks and tricks Washington insiders like Kirsten Gillibrand are using to hide the real national debt. Additionally, DioGuardi has prepared a taxpayer credit card statement, revealing the amount each taxpayer owes to cover the national debt as well as what was spent per taxpayer for each major classification of the federal budget for the last fiscal year.

White House Debt Commission's Numbers Don't Add Up, Says DioGuardi video source: http://www.youtube.com/v/OlO1MxLFfGY | NEW YORK - Joe DioGuardi, the Conservative Party candidate for the U.S. Senate, today released the following statement regarding the White House Debt Commission's gross underestimates of the total federal debt. While the Commission reported a national debt load of $47,000 per U.S. resident, DioGuardi, a Certified Public Accountant, explained that this figure does not include the unfunded and unrecorded liabilities for Social Security and Medicare, which would bring the debt level to $186,666 per U.S. resident. |
"This country's debt cripples the economy, shackles business development and job creation, and ultimately jeopardizes the American dream. The American people deserve to know the monstrosity of this situation. And yet, federal accountants continually fail to report all the liabilities and commitments that must be added to our bonded debt of $12.8 trillion to show the real burden on us and the next generation. The White House Debt Commission's numbers grossly understate economic reality by failing to include our biggest liabilities, Medicare and Social Security, which increase our national debt to almost $60 trillion-incredibly four times the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the United States.
"Simply put, we are spending money we don't have. As a result, America is forced to borrow from countries, like China, that don't share our values, infusing their economy with our hard-earned dollars. Each year, we send billions abroad that only serve to create jobs and opportunities in other countries rather than in the United States.
"Washington needs to account for all our debts and liabilities, just as the Security and Exchange Commission requires of publicly-traded corporations to protect shareholders from fraud and abuse. I believe that the average American deserves the same protection. We cannot plan for the future without the real numbers, which I have prepared as part of a U.S. Taxpayer Congressional Credit Card Statement."
