From: CDFE Sent: Friday, July 01, 2011 Subject: EPA Mileage Rules Will Cost You $$$
Does Barack Obama want to take over the auto industry...or destroy it?
If the EPA's proposed regulations are implemented, he will achieve the latter not the former as his opening salvo of destroying the United States free enterprise system!
The Obama administration plans to impose new regulations on automakers that will add nearly $10,000 to the cost of every car, light van, light SUV and light truck sold in the United States and give the bureaucracy a virtual stranglehold over its right to impose draconian environmental regulations on the free enterprise system.
According to the Detroit News, the White House [these agencies ARE the administration] - in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) - will require auto manufacturers to meet higher fuel efficiency standards of 56.2 miles per gallon (mpg) by 2025.
A study released by the Ann Arbor-based Center for Automotive Research argues that the Administration's proposal would be disastrous for Americans and for the U.S. economy, because implementing these stringent regulations would add an additional cost to every new vehicle sold of between $3,744 and $9,790 in order to produce cars that meet a range of between 47 and 62 mpg. These additional costs are expected to reduce auto sales by 5.5 million units. The loss of that much productivity will lead to 260,000 lay-offs from the automotive industry, caused by reduced demand for vehicles by still-working consumers who are worried, today, about losing their job. The loss of 260 jobs will result in a parallel loss of about $17 billion that will not be spent in the community, resulting in a companion loss of job in those communities where the income losses are suffered. So the loss of 260,000 auto industry jobs actually translates to a loss of around 300 to 350,000 jobs.
Clearly, Obama, along with the EPA and NHTSA, has devised another jobs-killing mandate, which the Center for Automotive Research says could easily kill the any recovery. Obama couldn't do a better job of killing the economy if he tried.
Are Obama and his cronies bent on destroying the U.S. economy?

Are Obama and his cronies bent on destroying the U.S. economy?
Obama's demand that automakers change their Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards to a fleet-wide average of 34.1 mpg by 2016 and 56.2 mpg for all new cars and trucks sold in the U.S. by 2025 (a fleet-wide average of 47-62 mpg by the end of the period), caught some Michigan members of Congress off guard, according to The Wall Street Journal, since it was higher than automakers expected. But, certainly in-line with the average of 60 mpg that environmentalists have been pushing for.
Environmentalists who want the fleet average set at 60 mpg or more have won the backing of prominent governors by touting polls which claim Americans support that standard, The Detroit News reports.
[These] restrictions inflate the prices of sportscars, SUVs, and vans-all of the vehicles consumers want...The restrictions have been shown by some studies to increase the dangers associated with crashes, due to the use of less metal, and other factors, according to the Daily Tech.
The EPA is reporting that more Americans want to but hybrids and electric vehicles opposed to vehicles that run on gas, but in reality, the EPA is taking another swipe at consumers in an attempt to force them to buy vehicles they do not want.
Gloria Berquist, the spokeswoman for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, told the Daily Tech that in 2010 pickup trucks outsold all 30 hybrids combined. [W]e need to preserve affordability, vehicle choice, jobs and safety as we improve fuel economy, Berquist said.
Tell Congress it's time to stop OBAMA AND HIS CRONIES' JOB-KILLING REGULATIONS that appear designed to kill the free enterprise system....NOW!
The Center for Automotive Research warns that the personal mobility of the American citizen - and their freedom to drive a car - is under threat by extreme EPA mandates!
You know that Obama and the EPA's mandates on vehicle fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions are extreme when you see Democrats and even union officials questioning the Administration's actions.
Sen. Carl Levin, (D-Mich.), told reporters that he is very concerned, about the impact on auto sales and jobs; and is sending a letter to the White House asking for a detailed explanation on how it decided on 56.2 mpg by 2025. We want to know how they arrived at that starting point, Sen. Levin said. We will get that information one way or another.
The Detroit News reports that: The EPA and NHTSA will complete a draft of the standards and send it to the White House Office of Management and Budget for review by the end of July.
It's not enough for a friendly liberal Senator to politely ask Obama why he's trying to kill the auto industry. The American people need to flood both the House and Senate with enough emails to wake up even the sleepiest Congressman and Senator and DEMAND TO KNOW why the White House is sabotaging the auto industry. Is it just to sell electric cars the American people don't want?
Environmentalists' push for an average of at least 60 mpg by 2025 - and stringent rules to reduce vehicle emissions of carbon dioxide is alarming everyone - auto manufacturers and their employees, lawmakers, and consumers.
Detroit auto makers have also voiced concerns that the EPA and Department of Transportation's proposal will raise car prices and kill jobs, adds The Wall Street Journal.
Leaders of FORD said that the company wants to make sure that the Administration's proposed fuel economy requirements of 56.2 mpg are data-driven and factors in the impact of this rulemaking will have on jobs, the economy and the welfare of the American family.
Don't forget that in 2009, automakers held secret meetings with the State of California and the White House and struck a deal to hike fuel efficiency standards nationally to an average 34.1 mpg by 2016 - but not 56.2 mpg by 2026. The original plan will cost the auto industry $51.5 billion over five years, according to the EPA and the NHTSA's own estimates. Which, of course, means it will cost consumers $51.5 billion over five years because those costs are always passed on to YOU and ME! Welcome to the world of compromise at the expense of the consumer who always pays the bill.
Together, we can stop the EPA from imposing its job-killing mandates on Americans!
Sincerely, Ron Arnold, Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise Action Fund at www.cdfe.com
P. S. Americans are facing 9.1 percent unemployment that is only going to increase if the Obama administration implements its mandates on auto manufacturers. These proposed regulations will impact every American who wants to purchase a new vehicle, and everyone who works in the auto industry.
