Surprise: Anti-Jesus Pro-Allah Judge David Hamilton Will Get Senate Vote

The Washington Times just reported "a move seems to be afoot" in the Senate to allow a debate and full Senate vote on whether President Obama's Anti-Jesus Judge David Hamilton should be confirmed to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. You may remember him as the Judge who ruled it's illegal to pray "in Jesus name" but totally legal to pray to Allah on the floor of the Indiana Legislature. His foolish ruling in Hinrichs v. Bosma was overturned (thanks in part to our legal support of the Indiana Attorney General). He also ruled to hasten the abortion of unborn children, but that bad ruling was also overturned. Now Obama wants to reward Hamilton's anti-Jesus prejudice with promotion to the same appeals court that overruled him.

Back in April & May 2009 we sent nearly 700,000 fax petitions to the full Senate against Hamilton, and we successfully persuaded all Republicans to unite against Hamilton, earning all 7 minority votes to block him in the Judiciary Committee. But all 12 committee majority Democrats voted against Jesus-prayers, and so forwarded Hamilton to the full Senate, where his nomination sat quietly without action for seven months, until now...

On 4 June 09, the Judiciary committee voted 12-7 along strict party lines, to forward the nomination of Judge David Hamilton, the anti-Jesus Judge, the same judge who issued controversial rulings banning public prayers offered "in Jesus name," (but allowing prayers to Allah), and hastening the abortion of unborn children. This vote came after we'd already sent nearly 600,000 faxes to the entire Senate opposing Hamilton, proving some Republicans listen to the voice of the people, and some Democrats remain deaf to our petitions. Now this anti-Jesus Judge Hamilton will face the full Senate, and the threat of filibuster by the pro-faith, pro-family Senator James Inhofe (R-OK).

To stop Hamilton, we need 40 strong Senate votes to stand with Senator Inhofe, to uphold his filibuster. If we fail, Hamilton will be promoted to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, the same court that overruled his aggressive, anti-life, anti-liberty decisions for years. ANTI-JESUS, BUT PRO-ALLAH?

Judge Hamilton wrote: "The injunction orders the Speaker...that the prayers should not use Christ's name or title or any other denominational appeal...If those offering prayers in the Indiana House of Representatives choose to use the Arabic 'Allah'...the court sees little risk that the choice of language would advance a particular religion or disparage others."

In other words, Judge Hamilton ruled the words "Jesus" or "Christ" or "Savior" are illegal words, prohibited for public speech, banned by the First Amendment, which somehow prohibits freedom of religious expression, and makes Christian prayers ILLEGAL, but prayers to Allah are TOTALLY LEGAL in a public forum. (What crazy version of the First Amendment is he reading?)

Thank God, we took action in 2007 and provided legal arguments to the Indiana Attorney General who appealed to the 7th Circuit Court and WE WON a 2-1 decision overruling Hamilton, restoring the right to pray "in Jesus name" in Indiana. But if President Obama succeeds in promoting Hamilton to the same court that overruled him, that good reversal will be in jeopardy.

We're now the leading national voice against Hamilton, and we're getting traction toward a successful Senate filibuster that can stop Hamilton's confirmation, much to the horror of many liberal groups (including the National Abortion Rights Action League who is actively campaigning FOR Hamilton). But together, we can be a louder voice.

Judge Hamilton is the worst of Obama's 15 new liberal appeals court appointees. The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals covers Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois. Since most cases never reach the Supreme Court, the federal appellate circuits often provide the last word on cases affecting life and liberty.

The Judicial Confirmation Network quickly opposed Hamilton's nomination, stating that "President Obama's first nominee to the federal appeals courts -- specifically the appeals court based in Chicago -- is an ultra-liberal named David Hamilton who is a former fundraiser for ACORN and former leader of the Indiana chapter of the ACLU. He was nominated to the district court bench by President Clinton even though he had no judicial experience and was rated as 'not qualified' by the American Bar Association."

Now newly promoted Judiciary Committee ranking minority Member Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), agrees with pro-faith Senator James Inhofe (R-OK), that we should oppose and filibuster Hamilton's nomination to the 7th Circuit. Thanks in part to our public pressure, the Republicans and Sessions have twice succeeded in delaying Hamilton's committee votes, saying "This a complex area of the law, I'll admit, but it's time for the federal court to get their heads straight on proper separation of church and state issues."

ANTI-LIFE BUT PRO-ABORTION?
 
In 2003, Judge Hamilton struck down part of an Indiana law on abortion. The reasonable law had required abortion clinics to simply give women information about alternatives to abortion in the presence of a physician or nurse, 18 hours before the procedure, until Hamilton ruled to hasten abortions. But thank God, the 7th Circuit Court also reversed Hamilton's bad decision in that case.

If confirmed now Hamilton will sit on that 7th Circuit Court (the same court that frequently overruled him) with tyrannical power to rule the heartland of Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin with his anti-life, anti-liberty, anti-Christian agenda.

Even Senator Arlen Specter expressed concern about Hamilton while serving as a Republican, but after switching parties he broke his promise to not become a "rubber stamp" for the Obama Administration, and voted to confirm Hamilton anyway. But will any Democrats oppose the anti-Jesus Hamilton?

Senate Moves to ENDA Religious Freedom

November 2, 2009 – Senate Democrats don't think they have created enough havoc so they have decided to hold a hearing on ENDA—S. 1584, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

will hold a hearing this Thursday, Nov 5 at 10:00am.

The Senate hearing is likely to be a rehash of what happened in the House on September 23 when House Democrats held a three-hour hearing on ENDA.  The hearing was an orchestrated propaganda event promoting the gay lifestyle and Gender Identity Disorders.

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is a pro-gay, pro-transgender bill that will be a nightmare for business owners, religious broadcasters and other Christian entities.

ENDA is designed to get homosexuals, bisexuals, cross-dressers, and transsexuals added to the list of federally-protected minorities. If this is accomplished, the LGBT agenda will be imposed on businesses, local, state and federal governments, including public schools K-12, Christian day care centers and camps, plus religious broadcasters with more than 15 employees.

This legislation is based on the false premise that gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered individuals are victims of widespread and systematic discrimination in the workplace.

Marketing statistics from gay marketing companies indicate that the average income for a gay or lesbian is $80,000 a year. The U.S. Census notes that the median income in 2008 for blacks was $34,218; for Hispanics it was $37,913; for Asians it was $65,637. Median income for non-Hispanic white households was $55,530.

In addition, gay marketers say that gays and lesbians spend an estimated $45 to $65 billion a year on travel!

This doesn't sound like a group that is suffering from job discrimination.

ENDA will force businesses, schools, as well as Christian entities such as religious broadcasters, etc., to accommodate the sexual practices of cross-dressers, drag queens, transsexuals, and even she-males (individuals who undergo only a partial sex change operation). Will private Christian camps be forced to hire she-males? Under ENDA it is likely.

ENDA is proposing newly invented rights for individuals who engage in a variety of bizarre sex acts. ENDA pits constitutional rights of religious freedom and free speech against individuals who cross-dress or engage in dangerous sexual activities.

Openly gay Obama appointee John Berry who runs Office of Personnel Management, which is the federal government's personnel agency. He recently gave a speech at a LGBT conference and said that ENDA is the most important piece of legislation the LGBT movement can get passed.

If ENDA is enacted and signed into law, it is only a matter of time before all the rest happens- ACTION NEEDED IMMEDIATELY

   ENDA, (S. 1584) includes coverage of "gender identity." The term "gender identity" is code for drag queens, transvestites, and transsexuals. The umbrella term "transgender" is used to describe these individuals. S. 1584 describes "gender identity" as "the gender-related identity, appearance or mannerisms, or other gender-related characteristics of an individual, with or without regard to the individual's designated sex at birth."
   

ENDA describes "sexual orientation" as homosexuality, bisexuality and heterosexuality, but also adds "gender identity" as a protected class. This is code for someone who thinks he's the opposite sex or likes to wear opposite sex clothing. It also includes she-males, individuals who undergo only half of a sex-change operation. They are male from the waist down and female from the waist up.

By making "gender identity" a federally-protected class under the law, this normalizes what are mental illnesses, known as a Gender Identity Disorder and/or Transvestic Fetishism. It elevates what a person "thinks" he is over what he actually is.

Congress should not be passing a law that affirms special minority protections for individuals who believe they are trapped in opposite sex bodies. This mental disorder is a treatable condition, not a fixed identity that must be accorded federally-protected class status.

Congress is equating this mental disorder to being equal to African-American or Hispanic under the law.

If ENDA passes, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 will be amended to include gays, lesbians, bisexuals, cross-dressers, and she-males under the law.

Senate Hides Obama Anti-Free Enterprise Czar Vote!

Harris Sherman an extreme environmentalist CZAR nominated by Obama was confirmed in a quick vote by the Senate and is being hidden from Americans. Sherman is to be Obama's Under Secretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and the Environment.

A CDFE investigation revealed that the Senate public Congressional Record is hiding the vote. For some reason the vote is not being made public and is being hidden even from or by the Associated Press. How many Senators do not even know the vote happened?

Americans had no opportunity to examine the background of Sherman before or after his confirmation hearing. There are reasonable questions and issues that are being ignored as this new CZAR is pushed through the Senate. Obama and the Senate must reconsider the confirmation and STOP Sherman.

Sherman would have total control over 190 million acres of America - the size of Texas - as boss of the National Forests.

The Problem: National Forests aren't Parks, they're productive lands for energy from oil and natural gas, electricity from coal, strategic metals for our military and the machines that do our work, lumber and paper, farming and ranching, road-building material, hunting and fishing and much more.

A magazine features a cover photo of Obama with a halo beaming behind his head in the likeness of the murals of medieval saints. Women faint on hearing his speeches. He delivers those speeches with lines and cadences borrowed from his mentor, a radical clergyman. “In a way Obama is standing above the country, above the world. He’s sort of god. He’s going to bring all different sides together,” proclaimed Newsweek editor Evan Thomas.
 
Barack Obama is of course a messiah, one of the latest in a long line of socialist messiahs, men whom socialists and liberals believed were meant to radically reform the world, to teach people to overcome selfishness and greed, and unite as one.

The phenomenon of the quasi-religious worship of Obama is only shocking to those who fail to understand that socialism is itself a religion. Henri de Saint-Simon, the French 18th century thinker who coined the term socialism, described it as “The New Christianity”. Like many early socialists he envisioned its ideas as a tool for returning to primitive Christianity. The famous 19th century historian Renan explicitly made the comparison, writing, “If you want to get an idea of what the first Christian communities were like, take a look at a local branch of the International Workingmen’s Association.” The Association is better known as the First International, one of whose members was Karl Marx.

The original name of the Communist party that Karl Marx would go on to head was The League of the Just, whose stated goal was, “the establishment of the Kingdom of God on Earth, based on the ideals of love of one’s neighbour, equality and justice”. The same essential principles sum up the ideals of the Religious Left today which define religion in terms of social justice. Of course the end result of this process wipes everything from the blackboard, including God and the Bible, which become nothing more than props for socialist preaching. And that is exactly what the religion of socialism looks like.

Communism simply rejected one god, in favor of human divinities worshiped for bringing social justice to mankind.

Communism was never atheistic, it simply rejected one god, in favor of human divinities worshiped for bringing social justice to mankind, Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao and the whole gang of crimson murderers and thieves. These men formed cults of personality around them because they embodied the theology of socialism as a vital active work on earth. To socialist Christians they embodied the message of Jesus. To socialist Jews, the message of the prophets—stripped of anything but social justice.

But what sort of religion is socialism exactly? What drives and motivates it? Socialism views individualism as sinful and unity as the solution to human evils. The brotherhood of all men, a phrase that resounds from the French Revolution down to Saint-Simon and to the Bolsheviks, idealizes a collectivist struggle and tyranny under the guiding hand of the great socialists.

Saint Simon, the original socialist, did not envision the common man running things. Instead he foresaw socialism as being overseen by “Men of Science” who would direct the industrialists on how to run society for the benefit of all. Two centuries later, virtually the same dogma runs through the administration of Barack Obama, with its manifold Czars and Harvard graduates directing everything from banks to car companies.

They are the Saints of Socialism, presumed to know better by virtue of their commitment to socialism, just as nothing could be built in Communist China without crediting Mao’s red book as its inspiration, and Stalin was presumed to know all there was to know every field better than its practitioners. The supernatural competence credited to Obama by his supporters must be seen in that light.

The paradox of socialism is that it demands equality for all, and yet insists that the common man is completely unfit to make his own decisions. Their argument is that individual man is too flawed, too bent on seeking personal advancement and wealth, and too little given to considering the needs of society as a whole, a flaw that he can only overcome in concert with others as part of a larger organization dedicated to the betterment of man. That same line of propaganda runs through the talking points of every socialist agenda, from health care nationalization to environmentalism to multilateralism. One bad. Many good.

Only united toward common goals are men anything more than selfish hoarders. And since men individually are selfish, only transcendent individuals who can unselfishly see the larger vision and steer the world toward it, can be allowed to lead. Men who are “special”, who play the role of the transformative messianic figure, smashing political and economic obstacles to create a new world order.

Or as disgraced former Presidential candidate Gary Hart put it;

"He is in fact an agent of transformation. He is not operating on the same plane as ordinary politicians, and this makes him seem elusive to the conventional press and the traditional politicians. His instinct for the moment and the times is orders of magnitude more powerful than the experience claimed by others. Experience in the old ways is irrelevant experience. In an age of great transformation, experience of the past is worthless because it is a barrier to the breakthrough gesture…

The past is worthless, so the transformative figure need not have any actual qualifications. Experience is irrelevant because it is rooted in the past that is going to be demolished anyway. Who needs to know how many states there are or when Columbus sailed the ocean blue. In the brave new America, there will be no states and Columbus Day will be the new Nakba.

The idea of the transformative figure plays a key role for radicals, who often have tossed aside even liberal theology in favor of radicalism. Religion to them is social change, their saints were martyred while protesting for the oppressed, and their messiah is the avatar of social change, a man who shatters the links to the old ways, ushering in a new society and new ways of thinking.

Chris Matthews was not being obsequious when he proclaimed, “This is the New Testament”. He was literally having a socialist religious experience. One that many others in the media have experienced as well. When your religion is social change, the man who embodies that change is the messiah. His words are a New Testament, setting aside the old, in favor of the new. A new world order. Hope, and most of all change.

I have spoken mostly about Europe, but American radicalism also has a long history of creating such artificial manmade supernatural religions right down to the modern New Age movement. Spiritualism, promoted by liberal theologians in liberal Churches, once played a major role in America, tying in even the 19th century George Bush, one of the country’s most famous ministers, and the great, great grand-uncle of George W. Bush.

In the 19th century radical Quakers like Isaac Post, promoted the predecessors of Oprah, namely the Fox sisters or Ascha Sprague, who traveled around the country, appearing on stages and claiming to communicate with the spirit world. In the process they also promoted everything from evolution to feminism and abolitionism while picking the pockets of gullible audiences. Their publications boasted names such as Banner of Light and The People’s World.

While it is easy to dismiss Spiritualism as silly superstition today, in the 19th century they were known as Christian Rationalists, because they had essentially reduced religion to a science. And while that science was a collection of lunatic nonsense inspired by a man suffering from delusions, its premise denied the unknowable, replacing conventional theology, with one based on animism, spiritual transformation and social change—elements heavily present in the Oprah crowd today.

The rhetoric is virtually the same, backed by the old Spiritualist notions that we are here to move on to a higher plane and a time of social transportation is here. Combined of course with socialism’s driving force, the evolved leader who can embody that social change.

The New Age movement was not a radical break with the past, no more than Oprah’s rebranded Tolle material is, both are successors of Spiritualism’s radical past. The original version of the Spiritualist’s Communion of Saints, in which the dead would return to uplift the living, has faded away. Along with the Fox Sisters knuckle rapping messages from the other side. But in its place has come environmentalism, which like Spiritualism fuses animism with radical politics, and is fed by the New Age movement.

The Spiritualists believed that the dead had returned with a message for mankind to cease its selfish ways and ascend to a new level. Environmentalists preach that the earth is alive and in peril, and calls on us to cease our selfish ways and ascend to a new way of living. Both mask supernatural dogma with a veneer of science. As absurd as Arthur Conan Doyle’s search for fairies might seem today, he believed that he was applying strict scientific methodology to an important issue, no more and no less so than any environmentalist today.

The common element is transformation. The theology of socialism is one that promises transformation through collective action. Change is its religious experience. And those who teach the masses to Hope for Change, for the great evolutionary revolution, are its saints and messiahs.

Obama’s finest speeches do not excite. They do not inform. They don’t even really inspire. They elevate. They enmesh you in a grander moment, as if history has stopped flowing passively by, and, just for an instant, contracted around you, made you aware of its presence, and your role in it. He is not the Word made flesh, but the triumph of word over flesh…

Obama is, at his best, able to call us back to our highest selves, to the place where America exists as a glittering ideal, and where we, its honored inhabitants, seem capable of achieving it, and thus of sharing in its meaning and transcendence Ezra Klein, THe American Prospect

It is doubtful that any spiritualist could have better expressed this same set of ideas. The idea of Obama as a force that elevates, that causes you to experience yourself as an agent of historical change and that finally teaches us to transcend by envisioning an ideal America as a socialist kingdom of heaven on earth, where no one is hungry or sick or discriminated against… and the government led by him takes care of us all.

Not the word made flesh, but the triumph of word over flesh. Flesh is weak. Needy, greedy and selfish. Socialism is doctrine triumphing over humanity, Orwell’s boot on the face of humanity, keeping us down for our own good. And if any of us have the gall to feel bad about it, that is where the preachers of the Socialist Word come in, to “inspire” and “elevate” us to be better cogs in the collectivist machine. To be agents of revolutionary social change.

We are the ones we have been waiting for. Hope and Change. Some must sacrifice for the good of all.

Much like the old Communists and Fascists on the streets of Weimar-era Berlin, they’d rather use muscle than ideas to get a victory.  As we’re all aware, one of the current targets is Glenn Beck. In particular, Free Press wants to make him out as a paranoid McCarthyite.

Supposedly he’s seeing socialists, Marxists, and communists everywhere. Even though Senator McCarthy was right, and Communists had infiltrated our government all the way up to Alger Hiss, we’re supposed to think badly of Red hunting. But let’s look at the people themselves at Free Press, leading special interest promoter of the Fairness Doctrine, ownership diversity rules, and of course Net Neturality. Are they as socialist as Beck thinks?

Let’s start with Free Press Staff shocked at the Socialist menace alleged by Beck. Any socialists hiding under the rocks there?

•Megan Tady has a track record of working for places like In These Times, which billed itself as “The Independent Socialist Newspaper”. Are we to believe she was the contrarian influence there, and not another good Socialist?

•Or how about Lindsy Embree? She was, I’m told, a volunteer for The Catholic Worker, an expressly anti-”capitalist” organization that counted as its ally the Industrial Workers of the World. Surely they’re not Communist, he asked sarcastically?

•Finally there’s Alex Kahn, whose CV includes the dynamite claim of a BA in “Social Thought and Political Economy” from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a degree would have had taken him through a course list with entries like “Black Marxism” and “Marxian Economics.” Did he suffer though all that while disagreeing with the Marxist agenda he was studying? Not likely.

Perhaps these buffoons should have looked in the mirror to find the socialists Beck speaks of? Or maybe they could have talked to the top brass in the office:

•Robert McChesney, co-founder of Free Press, is on the board of Monthly Review, which says of itself that “From the first Monthly Review spoke for socialism and against U.S. imperialism, and is still doing so today.”

•Ben Scott, policy director for Free Press, who voluntarily worked as a staffer for Bernie Sanders, the self-described Independent Socialist in Congress.

•Of course Van Jones was a board member of Free Press; funny how Free Press fails to mention in their hagiographical video about him, that he has a tie with that group. And in 2008 he was quite open about his plans to use “green” economics as a first step towards ending all “capitalism.” He also compared himself with Rosa Parks, saying her first step against Jim Crow was just like his first step against capitalism.

So tell us, again, why we shoudln’t think socialists are all over Free Press, when Free Press sends a trio of Socialists to mock the claim, and has socialists all the way to the top?

Like bears to honey or zombies to brains, politicians find something irresistible about soda taxes. President Obama recently told Men’s Health magazine that he thinks a “sin tax” on soda is “an idea that we should be exploring.” San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom moved to impose a fee on stores for selling sugary drinks, only to admit that his plan was probably illegal. In December, New York Gov. David Paterson proposed a 18 percent tax on full-sugar soda to help cover a budget shortfall. After a public outcry, he claimed he was just raising awareness about childhood obesity. But he was also rehashing the same old myths about how taxing soda will save us all:
1. Sin taxes are for our own good.
The basic idea sounds reasonable enough. Why not have the government nudge citizens along the path to righteousness by making bad choices more expensive? But even the most avid proponents of sin taxes concede that none of the nickel-and-dime proposals on the table is large enough to discourage soda drinking. And they’re not really intended to. Soda taxes, like most sin taxes, aren’t primarily designed to reduce consumption — they’re designed to raise revenue. Tap water is already virtually free. Adding a few cents in tax to a $1.29 soda bottle isn’t going to send cost-conscious Coke-guzzlers swarming to the nearest water fountain. Forty states currently take a bite out of sales of soda or junk food — if anyone’s addicted to soda, it’s state legislatures. In the Men’s Health interview, Obama focused on childhood obesity. But the Senate Finance Committee’s interest in soda taxes at a hearing this spring wasn’t about keeping American spawn slim; health-care reformers were salivating over the projected $24 billion in revenue that a 3-cent tax would generate over the next four years.
2. Soda is causing the obesity epidemic.
It’s true that, on the whole, fat people drink more soda than skinny people. They also consume more calories overall and exercise less. So soda does help people pack on the pounds. But so does absolutely everything everyone eats. No news story about soda is complete without the scolding phrase “empty calories,” yet soda consumption per capita hasremained steady over the past two decades as obesity numbers have continued to rise. Weight gain is a function of calories in minus calories out. A food calorie is 4.2 kilojoules of energy, whether it comes from a bottle of orange juice, a latte or an ice-cold Coke. Cola calories are not uniquely “empty.” They are not bleak, hollow shells of calories, staging tiny productions of “Waiting for Godot” in your love handles. A calorie is a calorie.
3. Soda taxes help everyone.
Even advocates of soda taxes admit that the costs will be borne disproportionately by the poor, who spend a larger percentage of their income on soda than other groups. Nonetheless, politicians continue the long tradition of taxing the wazoo out of a can of Coke while leaving upscale beverages and luxury foods sin-tax-free. Eight ounces of Naked’s Mighty Mango juice ($3.79 a bottle at Whole Foods) contains slightly more sugar than the same serving of cola, while diet soft drinks have the same calorie count as water. But nationwide, fancy juices and venti mocha Frappuccinos remain almost completely untouched by sin surcharges, while a bodega bottle of Sprite brings down the wrath of the taxman. It’s the silly, sugary equivalent of the distinction between the harsh sentencing guidelines for people caught with crack vs. the lenient sentencing for possessors of cocaine, its high-class cousin.
4. High-fructose corn syrup is extremely hazardous to your health.
It’s the stuff that makes soda sticky sweet — and the reason many justify a soda tax. Florida state Rep. Juan Zapata called it the “crack of sweeteners” and tried to ban it in schools in 2006. At the popular blog Slashfood, it’s known as “the devil’s additive.” High-fructose corn syrup has been treated as the fall guy for America’s obesity problem. But the hazards of cheap corn sweetener are the stuff of pseudo-scientific legend. New York University nutritionist Marion Nestle, a major proponent of soda taxes, has said of corn syrup: “It’s basically no different from table sugar. . . . The body can’t tell them apart.” Even the head of the self-proclaimed “food police” has denounced high-fructose fear-mongering. Michael Jacobson of the Center for Science in the Public Interest tore into a 2004 scientific research report that kicked off anti-corn-syrup hysteria, saying, “The authors of this paper misunderstood chemistry, draw erroneous conclusions and have done a disservice to the public in generating this controversy.”
5. Obesity is driving health-care costs up. A soda tax is just a user fee.
Should we consider soda taxes an advance payment for all those diabetes tests and emergency room visits down the road — not to mention the cost of buying the inevitably necessary super-size MRI machines? A group of academics, state health commissioners and others take exactly that line in the pages of the New England Journal of Medicine this month, writing, “Escalating health care costs and the rising burden of diseases related to poor diet create an urgent need for solutions, thus justifying government’s right to recoup costs.” But there is a dangerous precedent at the root of this argument: that government can and should tax any behavior that hurts the budget’s bottom line. That logic sends us down a strange road. It’s just a slouch, sink and a slump to taxing remote controls, thus encouraging the fat and lazy to get a little exercise by standing up to change the channel.
All kinds of private decisions — good and bad — affect government spending. That doesn’t give politicians the right to use taxes to push people around.

1. Nobel Peace Prize Called 'Left-wing Charade'

The Nobel Peace Prize has become "worthless" and should be overshadowed by an award named for a man who truly did achieve peace � Ronald Reagan, according to former White House official Jeffrey Lord.

Writing in The American Spectator after Barack Obama became the latest recipient of the Nobel, Lord observes: "The decision to give the award to Obama was made by a group of Norwegian parliamentarians dominated by socialists."

The prize "has become essentially worthless, a charade for left-wing Norwegian politicians to award like-minded liberals and liberalism under the guise that the award in some objective fashion determines an individual's contributions to peace," writes Lord, who was a political director in the Reagan administration.

"It's easy to cite the current story. Obama today, Al Gore yesterday, Jimmy Carter the day before that. . . Reagan? Thatcher? Pope John Paul II? George W. Bush? Of course not.

"It's time for the Reagan Peace Prize. Actually, it's past time."

Lord cites a number of Nobel recipients whose efforts at promoting peace ultimately resulted in failure, beginning in 1919 with U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. He was honored for his work on the disastrous Treaty of Versailles ending World War I and the League of Nations, which Lord described as "an embarrassing failure."

"The hard cold facts of history illustrate that the peace through strength policies initiated by President Reagan were a success," says Lord, now a journalist and author whose works have appeared in publications including The Wall Street Journal and National Review.

"His belief in the importance of human freedom, in directly opposing tyranny and protecting liberty, combined with the maintenance and, when needed, projection of a strong military, ended the Cold War and the 'evil empire' that was the Soviet Union.

"Reagan's strategy freed millions of East Europeans enslaved since the end of the Second World War, which in turn was brought on by the inexcusably wrong-headed, naive if well-intentioned policies of one Nobel Peace Prize winner after another."

Recipients of the Reagan Prize would be chosen by a panel of conservative Americans drawn from the worlds of politics, journalism, entrepreneurship and entertainment. And it would be presented in Berlin, a "symbol of Reagan's successes: the destruction of the Berlin Wall, the fall of the Soviet Union that built it, and the Cold War that made that Wall and all it stood for possible," Lord writes.

As for who might win the award, Lord suggests likely candidates would be "the three Iranian dissidents known only by their initials in current news reports, all identified as being sentenced to death for protesting Iran's rigged elections."

Lord concludes: "It's time to award real prestige to those who achieve real peace. It's time for the Reagan Prize."

2. Obama's War on Fox News Could Backfire

The Obama administration's recent declaration of war on Fox News could backfire and be seen as an "admission of weakness," according to an opinion piece in New York magazine.

White House communications director Anita Dunn fired a volley at the network when she declared: "We're going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent," The New York Times reported on Oct. 11.

"As they are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don't need to pretend that this is the way legitimate news organizations behave."

She later said: "Fox News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party."

Fox Senior Vice President for News Michael Clemente fired back at what he called the White House�s �attack mentality.�

"Perhaps the energy would be better spent on the critical issues we are worried about,� Clemente said in a statement issued by the network.

The White House's logic "seems to be that there's no point in trying to be fairly portrayed on Fox News," Chris Rovzar observed in New York magazine.

"But there are plenty of negatives to this take-no-prisoner approach. . .

"Recognizing Fox as an enemy worth fighting is an admission of weakness for a president whose appeal has been partly predicated on the promise of unity."

Rovzar also wrote: "Beyond the fact that Fox will use this White House move to boost their ratings (Obama winning the election has always been their golden ticket � they're on track now for their best year ever), it makes it seem as though they're actually wounding the president."

In June, President Obama attacked Fox without mentioning it by name, saying it was devoted entirely to attacking his administration and that its coverage of his actions was entirely negative.

And last month, the president appeared on all the major networks� Sunday talk shows except for "Fox News Sunday," which the White House called an �ideological outlet."

But Bill Shine, Fox�s senior vice president for programming, told The Times: �Every time they [attack], our ratings go up.�

3. Hillary Firmly Rules Out White House Bid

For the first time, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton clearly has ruled out another presidential run.

During an interview with NBC's Ann Curry on the "Today" show on Monday, Clinton discussed her role in the Barack Obama administration. Curry suddenly asked: "Will you ever run for president again? Yes or no."

Hillary laughed and said firmly, "No."

Curry: "No?"

Clinton: "No. No. I mean, this is a great job. It is a 24-7 job. And I'm looking forward to retirement at some point."

Hillary's declaration came just days after leading political analyst Dick Morris suggested that Obama could be vulnerable to a challenge from Clinton for the 2012 Democratic presidential nomination.

Appearing on Fox News Channel, Morris told Bill O'Reilly that Obama was elected as a "peace candidate," but the U.S. is still in Guantanamo Bay, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and the president is going to increase troop levels in Afghanistan.

Obama, then, "is vulnerable primarily to a primary from the left," Morris said, "and he's got a Secretary of State who would make a dandy candidate for the left."

The Second Battle of Copenhagen

Before President Obama even landed at Andrews Air Force Base, returning from his mission to Copenhagen to win the 2016 Olympic Games, Chicago had been voted off the island.

Many shared the lamentation of Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, "What has become of America, when Chicago can't steal an election?"

A second and more serious battle of Copenhagen is shaping up, in mid-December, when a world conference gathers to impose limits on greenhouse gases to stop "global warming." Primary purpose: Rope in the Americans who refused to submit to the Kyoto Protocols that Al Gore brought home in the Clinton era.

The long campaign to bring the United States under another global regime -- the newest piece in the architecture of world government -- has been flagging since 2008. Then, it seemed a lock with the election of Obama and a veto-proof Democratic Senate.

Why has the campaign stalled? Because global warming has stalled. The hottest year of modern times, 1998, came and went a decade ago.

As BBC climate correspondent Paul Hudson writes: "For the last 11 years, we have not observed any increase in global temperatures. And our climate models did not forecast it, even though manmade carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise."

What this powerfully suggests is that what man does and does not do is far less responsible for climate change, if it is responsible at all, than other factors over which he has no control.

Consider. Though the emissions of carbon dioxide rose constantly throughout the 20th century -- with the industrialization of the West, Japan, Southeast Asia and, finally, China and India -- global temperatures have not risen steadily at all. They have fluctuated.

John Sununu, writing in the St. Croix Review, says the Earth underwent "cooling in the 1920s, heating in the 1930s and 1940s, cooling in the 1950s and 1960s and 1970s, warming in the 1980s and 1990s, and cooling in the past decade."

But if there is no crisis, why are we even going to Copenhagen? And if there is no causal connection between carbon dioxide and global warming, what is the true cause of climate change?

Some scientists say that 98 percent of the Earth's temperature can be explained by the sun. When the sun's energy increases, a matter over which man has zero control, the Earth's temperature rises. When the sun's energy diminishes, the Earth's temperature falls.

One solar scientist, Piers Corbyn, claims to have found a link between solar charged particles hitting the Earth and global warming and cooling.

Others, like professor Don Easterbrook of Western Washington University, contend that the oceans explain climate change. As they heat and cool cyclically, the Earth heats and cools. And where the oceans were cooling for 40 years before the 1990s, they have lately been heating up. Easterbrook says these cycles tend to last for 30 years.

As Hudson notes, there are scientists who claim they have taken all these factors into consideration and insist that the Earth, over the long haul, is warming. But Hudson cites Mojib Latif of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, who says we are in the first stage of a long-term cooling trend that will last another 10 to 20 years.

The anecdotal evidence almost daily contradicts Al Gore and the end-of-times environmentalists. Lately, there have been record-breaking cold spells in the Midwest and West. Snow came to Colorado this October, postponing a baseball playoff game. The hurricane season turned out to be among the mildest on record. Contrary to predictions, the polar bear population seems to be doing fine.

While the ice cap at the North Pole is receding, the Antarctic ice cap, which contains 90 percent of the world's ice, is expanding.

Moreover, receding ice in the Arctic is opening up a northwest passage from Europe to Asia. The Russians believe the immense mineral resources of the Arctic may soon be accessible. While we wring our hands, they are rushing to get them.

The mounting evidence that global warming has halted and man is not responsible for climate change has thrown the Kyoto II lobby into something of a panic. Barbara Boxer and John Kerry are re-branding the Senate cap-and-trade bill as a national security measure.

Obama Administration Hostile to Illegal Immigration Enforcement

The Obama administration is once again undermining the enforcement of our nation's immigration laws.

Last week I told you about the administration's attempts to undermine 287(g), a highly successful federal program that trains local law enforcement officers in illegal immigration enforcement techniques. Well, this week, two stories hit the press that show just how far the administration is willing to go to protect illegal alien criminals and punish law enforcement officers who are simply doing their jobs.

First, as reported by The Associated Press, the Obama administration is taking another swipe at one of its favorite bogeymen, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, known as "America's toughest Sheriff" for his no-nonsense approach to enforcing the law, including laws against illegal immigration. Here's the scoop:

An Arizona sheriff known for aggressively cracking down on illegal immigration has been stripped of some of his special power to enforce federal immigration law, and he claims the Obama administration is taking away his authority for political reasons.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose office faces racial profiling allegations over crime and immigration sweeps in some heavily Latino areas of metro Phoenix, said officials from Washington won't let him renew a deal that let his deputies make federal immigration arrests.

Make no mistake. This move by the Obama administration is a strong message to local police departments: "If you seek to enforce immigration laws, we will strip you of your power." When taken in context with the "reforms" to 287(g) that we discussed last week, it is clear the administration is intent on not only undermining, but completely dismantling the 287(g) program and any effort by local law enforcement officers to assist the relatively small cadre of federal agents responsible for enforcing immigration laws.

The good news is Sheriff Arpaio won't back down and will continue to enforce the law.

But the attack on 287(g) and the good sheriff is not the only tactic by this administration to undermine the rule of law. The Wall Street Journal reported this nugget earlier in the week:

The Obama administration is expected on Tuesday to unveil an outline of sweeping changes for the nation's immigration-detention system, saying it will decide whom to lock up and for how long based on the danger and flight risk posed by detainees...

...Until now, the Obama administration has been reluctant to revise detention standards, which were updated late in the administration of former President George W. Bush. The immigration detention system expanded dramatically during the Bush years as the government took a much tougher line against illegal immigrants.

The Obama administration's reforms include the construction of new and improved detention facilities, increased medical care, improved "custodial conditions" and a new "classification system" for illegal alien detainees. (The Obama administration believes holding illegal aliens who are marked for deportation in jail cells is cruel and unusual punishment. One proposed reform suggests putting them up in hotels and nursing homes instead!)

Leftists and their media allies have systematically been attacking the current detention system for the last two years. They are seemingly opposed to any detention system (hence, the Obama administration's emphasis on getting alien criminals out of jail).

The fact is many of the illegal aliens being "detained" in jails are simply awaiting deportation after having served time for other crimes, including crimes of violence. The federal government reimburses localities for jailing these bad guys. Certainly makes sense from a public safety perspective.

Of course, the whole idea of the Obama plan is to bring the entire system under federal control, which apparently means more money and less enforcement. Signs point to expensive "Club Feds" for illegal alien criminals.

So the twofer from the Obama administration this week is this: don't arrest illegal aliens and coddle them if they are arrested.

And so the illegal alien crisis will continue.

The Lesson from the Letterman Scandal

Last week CBS' David Letterman publicly confessed to a string of "creepy" affairs with former employees after the boyfriend of one of his "partners" attempted to extort $2 million from the late night talk show host. Despite the embarrassing admission, Letterman appears to be secure in his job and, in fact, experienced a double-digit ratings bump in the days following the disclosure.

When it comes to corrupt politicians, there is a lesson to be learned from the Letterman scandal.

Consider Nevada Republican Senator John Ensign. Ensign admitted in June to an extramarital affair with the wife of one of his staff members, who then allegedly obtained special favors from the Nevada Republican in exchange for his silence.

According to The New York Times:

The Justice Department and the Senate Ethics Committee are expected to conduct preliminary inquiries into whether Senator John Ensign violated federal law or ethics rules as part of an effort to conceal an affair with the wife of an aide, current and former officials said Friday...

...The inquiries will most likely examine whether Mr. Ensign, a Nevada Republican, or Douglas Hampton, his one-time administrative assistant, broke the law after Mr. Hampton, immediately upon leaving his Congressional job last year, began to lobby Mr. Ensign's office. Mr. Hampton, as a senior aide, was subject to a one-year lobbying ban, lawyers who specialize in ethics law said.

Politicians who are caught playing around generally have the same defense: "This is personal business and has nothing to do with my ability to do my job." Then there is usually some platitude about needing to "get back to work on behalf of the American people." We heard this ad nauseum from Bill Clinton and his apologists.

But the Clinton defense, used since by corrupt politicians of both parties, is complete bunk. Public officials who fool around not only hurt their families but they also subject themselves to blackmail and extortion, and usually commit other improprieties that impact all Americans.

Letterman did the right thing by not giving into any alleged blackmail related to his own misconduct. But you can bet that most politicians are not nearly as brave, especially since they can pay the blackmail with taxpayer money.

Just look at Ensign. He and his staffer apparently violated the lobbying ban which prevents politicians from trading favors and peddling influence. (One can go to jail for this.) This law was put in place to protect the interests of the American people.

And playboy politicians could also be extorted for any number of things, including national security secrets that could put the American people at risk.

When a public official engages in sexual misconduct, the American people and the public are almost always harmed in the process. In the case of Ensign, it is apparent he misused his public office (and taxpayer resources) to cover up his sexual shenanigans.

I sure won't shed any tears if David Letterman loses his job for his misconduct. As for Ensign's misconduct and abuse of office, it disqualifies him from continuing to serve in the United States Senate. Senator Ensign should resign.

Obama Corruption and the Olympics

President Obama took time away from addressing the serious issues of rising unemployment and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to make a big pitch to bring the Olympics to Chicago. It failed. But while some are musing about what Obama's failure tells us about his global influence, there is another important lesson here, and it is this: President Obama has no problem ignoring his own ethics policies as long as his friends will benefit.

Consider the individual Obama tapped to head his Olympics pitch, slumlord Valerie Jarrett. You may recall, as Chief Executive Officer of the Habitat Company Jarrett managed a controversial housing project located in Obama's former state senate district called Grove Parc Plaza that was rendered uninhabitable. She also helped fund a number of slum projects for convicted felon and former Obama campaign fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko and Allison Davis, Obama's former boss. (Judicial Watch obtained the documents that uncovered this connection.)

Had Valerie Jarrett been successful in bringing the Olympics back to Chicago, just who do you think would have benefitted? That's right. Jarrett's Chicago friends, including her old company, Habitat.

BECK: ...Can you make the claim that the 2016 Olympics are about personal enrichment for the friends of Obama?

FITTON: The problem is you have the appearance of conflict of interest, the appearance of personal enrichment. And in the context of the presidency of the United States, you don't want that happening. Valerie Jarrett needed an ethics waiver to run the Olympics office for Barack Obama. By Barack Obama's own rules that were going to clean up Washington, she would have been prohibited from working on this because of her prior conflict. They gave her an ethics waiver. Take a minute to think about the phrase "ethics waiver." Only in Washington could you have a(n)..."ethics waiver." Waive ethics. It's incredible. And now she has really hijacked the presidency on behalf of this local operation in Chicago, and everything in Washington has ground to a halt while [Jarrett and the Obamas] take care of their friends back in Chicago.

I mentioned Jarrett's ethics waiver because this is a very important issue and so far much of the mainstream media has failed to hold Obama to account. Just two days after the president instituted ethics reform in January and boldly promised to "close the revolving door that lets lobbyists come into government freely," he violated his own pledge, signing two ethics waivers for administration officials. Since then there have been many more. Ten in one day alone last month.

Obama promised to clean up Washington during his successful campaign run. But what we have seen in the first year of his presidency is a disturbing penchant for corrupt favoritism and secrecy.

I suspect that the air of corruption around the Chicago Olympic bid was largely responsible for its abject failure. The Olympic movement has had its fair share of corruption, and I'm guessing the International Olympic Committee didn't want to be associated with the corrupt "Chicago way." The Olympic crowd wants its corruption below the radar ? and that wasn't going to happen with this White House and its cronies in Chicago.

By the way, Judicial Watch has already initiated an investigation into the Chicago-Obama White House Olympic connection. We have a Freedom of Information Act request outstanding with the mayor's office in Chicago. I'll let you know what else we find.
