ALAN KEYES: I had read a little bit about the issues that were being raised about Obama back during the primary season. At first I thought, like a lot of people, "There's nothing to this. It's just a matter of fact. You can establish what the facts are." The Constitution specifies that a citizen who is naturalized, rather than born into the status of being an American citizen, cannot be president. That was done in the beginning because people feared a foreign takeover of the United States government by the process of immigration. Staid as it is, we again are in a situation where a lot of foreign entities have influence or control over U.S. policy.
The reason an issue has been raised about Obama is because of the simple question, which can be answered with a birth certificate that shows he was born in the United States, or born to parents who had the capacity to transmit U.S. citizenship. When the question was asked, he danced around it. If the most important office of the federal government can be occupied by someone who is not qualified under the United States Constitution, that destroys the authority of the Constitution. I think it's something that needs to be dealt with in a clear, straightforward way. Eventually the case will get to the Supreme Court, establish the facts, and clear the air. It's really all very simple.
For argument's sake, let's say Obama is only a naturalized citizen, and was raised by Americans and grew up in the United States. What difference does that make to you?

KEYES: It makes a difference to the Constitution. The Constitution has to be obeyed. If we get into a position where it is somehow regarded as dispensable then this country will fall apart. Black people should be the first folks to remember that. Without adherence to the Constitution our battles would have never been won. I don't want to live in a country where we are suddenly back in a world where the force of majority rules. I don't think any of us do.
ESSENCE.COM: The Obama campaign responded to these questions months ago by posting a birth certificate on his campaign Web site, showing that he was born in Hawaii.
KEYES: A lot of questions have been raised about what they posted. It has to be established by a matter of fact, not by some Web site. The state of Hawaii needs to share the birth certificate with the Supreme Court, so they can take a look at it. When I went into the government as part of the United States foreign service, you had to submit an original copy of your birth certificate. People have been dancing around Obama's certification instead of going straight to the answer.KEYES: Part of the problem is, at the time he was born, the state of Hawaii was issuing certificates of live birth. That's what he has on the Web site. They would issue that certificate verifying you were born, but not necessarily in the United States. And there is question that, at the time that he was born, his mother was not yet of age to transmit citizenship. You had to be 19, I think. If he was born in Hawaii, then he is a natural born citizen. If he was born somewhere else-and a question has been raised if his birth was in Kenya-then his mother would not have transmitted citizenship. One needs to verify that the certificate verifies the birthplace.
KEYES: I don't think anything. Just let it be verified. This is not something that should be taken on hearsay. This is the most important office. Everything should be done without controversy, in such a way that the Constitutional requirements are met. If something is contrary to the Constitutional requirement, then you have to do away with that. It's not on Obama to do this. The folks with whom this burden presently rests are the officials who are now responsible for the process, who sit on the Supreme Court and other areas. They have to abide by their oaths to preserve and defend the Constitution, and not have him entering into office with a question they refuse to resolve.

Obama has released the Certification of Live Birth, which is the OFFICIAL birth certificate of Hawaii, and it is the only one that Hawaii sends out. It no longer sends out copies of the original.
ReplyDeleteThe Officials in Hawaii have repeatedly confirmed the facts on the Certification, saying most recently:
I, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, director of the Hawaii State Department of Health, have seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawaii State Department of Health verifying Barack Hussein Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen. I have nothing further to add to this statement or my original statement issued in October 2008 over eight months ago...."
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-07-27-obama-hawaii_N.htm
This is a flat statement that the original document shows that Obama was born in Hawaii.
Keyes never asked to see, much less to verify, the birth certificates of Bush or any previous president, and although Keyes himself ran for president (as a minority party candidate), he did not release his own birth certificate, much less have it authenticated.
Why is Obama not releasing the true birth certificate? And, didn't his grandmother say she was present during his birth in Kenya? And was he a citizen of his step-father's oountry when he was a Soetoro? I'm stumpted as to why, if the original vital record of birth exists, doesn't Hawaii or Obama release it? After all, being President does come with some transparency. Statements are one thing, testifiable documents are totally another matter. Also, why were DNC certifications of candidate qualifications changed to drop the citizenship confirmation in the case of Obama? All-in-all, O'who? is the least transparent of presidents.
ReplyDeleteRe: "Why is Obama not releasing the true birth certificate?"
ReplyDeleteAnswer, the Certification of Live Birth is the true birth certificate because it is now the official birth certificate of Hawaii, and it is the only one that Hawaii now sends out to anyone, even the person named. It is accepted as proof of birth in Hawaii by the US State Department.
Re: "And, didn't his grandmother say she was present during his birth in Kenya?"
No, she didn't. His Kenyan grandmother actually said that he was born in Hawaii (confirming the official birth certificate). (Listen to the complete tape, until after the question “Whereabouts was he born?” http://www.obamacrimes.info/Telephone_Interview_with_Sarah_Hussein_Obama_10-16-)
As the National Review points out, it is crazy to believe the Kenya myth. A child born in Kenya requires a US visa or a change to his mother’s passport while she was in Kenya to allow him to get to the USA. If such a thing had happened, there would be records of it, which would have been found by now.
The McCain campaign checked out all the allegations, and found there was nothing to any of them.
Re: "And was he a citizen of his step-father's oountry when he was a Soetoro?"
Answer. No he wasn't. Both the US State Department and Indonesia have said that Obama was never a citizen of Indonesia. Also, though he used Soetoro's name, he was never legally adopted and never legally changed his name to Soetoro.
Re: "I'm stumpted as to why, if the original vital record of birth exists, doesn't Hawaii or Obama release it?"
The answer to why Obama does not release it is simple. He doesn't have it. He asked for a copy of his BC in 2007, and Hawaii sent him the official Certification of Live Birth, which is what it sends to everyone.
The answer to the question why Hawaii does not release it is more difficult. It is under a Republican governor. She, and the legislature of Hawaii, could change the rules if they want to, but apparently they do not want to. However, the officials of Hawaii have repeatedly said that the original document shows that Obama was born in Hawaii, and there is not a particle of proof that he was born anywhere else.
Re: "Also, why were DNC certifications of candidate qualifications changed to drop the citizenship confirmation in the case of Obama?"
Turns out that this is the normal thing that both parties do. They send the statement about Natural Born to the states that require it, and they do not send it to the states that do not require it, and they have done this in past elections with past presidents and past candidates as well.
Re: "All-in-all, O'who? is the least transparent of presidents."
An excellent reason to vote against him in 2012. Not a good reason to believe that he was born outside of Hawaii or lost his US citizenship in Indonesia (which US children cannot do, and which did not happen, as both the US State Department and Indonesia have said.)
Thank you smrstrauss for your considered and thorough reply. It would seem that the question of Obama's nationality is answered though for some reason I'm still uneasy as to his eligiblity. Maybe if Congress would pass a law requiring proof for future elections, such issues would be moot.
ReplyDeleteRe: "Maybe if Congress would pass a law requiring proof for future elections, such issues would be moot."
ReplyDeleteI support this idea, so long as there are some amendments from the current proposed legislation. You know that hundreds of thousands of birth certificates were lost in the New Orleans floods. So long as the law does not bar someone simply because a flood or a fire lost the records, I support it. Furthermore, I do not think it fair to require proof of birth in a state. The District of Columbia and the territories are also parts of the USA.
Re this one for me.
ReplyDeleteWas Obama's father a British subject at the time of Obama's birth? Before you answer remember Obama has said that his father was a British subject.
Then answer this one for me. Did Thomas Jefferson say that in order for a person to be a natural born citizen that both their parents have to be U.S citizens? He absolutely said it.
Personally I do not care how many birth certificates Obama has. I do not care if they have a raised seal an inch high. I do not care if he was born in the back woods of Kentucky. Our founders made it very clear as to what constituted a "natural born citizen" and that is both parents have to be U.S citizens.
Now you prove me wrong.
