We're going to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose head says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, signed by a president that also hasn't read it, and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't  pay his taxes, overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's nearly broke.

What possibly could go wrong?

(18) America's lower life expectancy compared to countries with socialist health care proves that their medical systems are superior.

President Obama has too much intellectual pride to make such a specious argument, so instead we have to keep hearing it from his half-wit supporters.

These Democrats are all over the map on where precisely Americans place in the life-expectancy rankings. We're 24th, according to Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Barbara Boxer; 42nd, according to Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell; 35th, according to Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson; and 47th, according to Rep. Dennis Kucinich. So the U.S. may have less of a "life expectancy" problem than a "Democratic math competency" problem.

But also, as described in last week's column, the citizenry's health is not the same thing as the citizenry's health care system.
Besides America's high rate of infant mortality -- based on biology and lifestyle choices, not medical care -- Americans are also more likely to overeat or smoke than people in other developed nations. And the two biggest killers in the Western world are obesity and smoking.



Liberals shouldn't have to be reminded how fat Americans are, inasmuch as they are always chortling about it. A 2004 New York Times article leeringly quoted a foreign doctor, saying: "We Europeans, whenever we came to America, we always noticed the enormous number of obese people on the streets." I note that these are the same people who openly worship Michael Moore.
Somewhat surprisingly to those of us who have long admired France for its humanitarian smoking laws, until the mid-1980s, Americans had had the highest rate of smoking in the developed world. This makes patriotic Americans like me wonder if there's a way to get Michael Moore to start smoking. (You know, just to keep his weight down or whatever.)

To be fair, the French are still being exposed to large amounts of smoke due to all the cars being set on fire by Muslims.

In 2003, America led the world in smoking-related deaths among women -- followed by Hungary. Simply excluding all smoking-related deaths from the World Health Organization's comparison of life expectancies at age 50 in 20 developed nations would raise U.S. women's life expectancy from 17th to 7th place and lift American men from 14th to 9th place.

Americans are also more likely to die in military combat than the whimpering, pant-wetting cowards our military has spent the past 70 years defending -- I mean, than "our loyal European allies." This is a health risk Europeans have managed to protect themselves against by living in a world that contains the United States military.

These are risk factors that have nothing to do with the health care system. To evaluate the quality of our health care, you have to compare apples to apples by looking at outcomes for specific medical conditions.

Although the United States has a higher incidence of heart disease, cancer and diabetes compared to Europe -- because of lifestyle choices and genetics -- it also has better survival rates across the board for all these medical problems.

The most revealing international comparisons look at cancer survival rates, because of the universally extensive record-keeping for this disease.

A European study found that, compared to 18 European countries, the U.S. had strikingly higher five-year survival rates in all 12 cancers studied, except for one: stomach cancer. Even there, the survival rates were close -- and the difference was attributed to the location of the cancer in the stomach.

For all types of cancers, European men have only a 47.3 percent five-year survival rate, compared to 66.3 percent survival rate for American men. The greatest disparity was in prostate cancer, which American men are 28 percent more likely to survive than European men.

European women are only 55.8 percent likely to live five years after contracting any kind of cancer, compared to 62.9 percent for American women.

In five cancers -- breast, prostate, thyroid, testicular and skin melanoma -- American survival rates are higher than 90 percent. Europeans hit a 90 percent survival rate for only one of those -- testicular cancer.

Most disturbingly, many cancers in Europe are discovered only upon the victim's death -- twice as many as in the U.S. Consequently, the European study simply excluded cancers that were first noted on the death certificate, so as not to give the U.S. too great an advantage.

There are no national registries for heart disease, as there are for cancer, making survival-rate comparisons more difficult. But treatments can be measured and, again, Americans are far more likely to be on medication for heart disease and high cholesterol -- medications that extend the lives of millions, developed by those evil, profit-grubbing American drug companies.

To get to the comparison they like (America is not as good as Sweden!), liberals have to slip in the orange of "life expectancy," and hope no one will mention monster truck races, Krispy Kremes and Virginia Slims. As the old saying goes: Life doesn't last longer in socialist countries; it just feels like it.

Washington, D.C. 15July09 - Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX), the lead House Republican on the Joint Economic Committee, unveiled today a detailed flow chart of the complex health care reform proposal by Democratic congressional leaders.

The chart identifies at least 31 new federal programs, agencies, commissions and mandates that accompany the unprecedented government takeover of health care in America.

“Why should any patient be forced to give control of their health care over to this Faustian pit of Washington bureaucracy?” asked Brady.

“This government takeover has only one guaranteed result: to tell Americans what doctors you can see, what treatments you deserve and what medicines you can have.”

The attached chart depicts how the health care system would be organized at the national level if the Democrats’ plan became law.  These new levels of bureaucracy, agencies, organization and programs will all be put directly between the patient and their health care.

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) was right. The President was being dishonest when he said the House health care bill does not providing benefits to illegal immigrants. It does.
  1. According to the Congressional Research Service, HR 3200 "does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens participating." The system would essentially operate on an honor system by illegal immigrants.


  2. HR 3200 provides State Medicaid agencies with the ability to set eligibility standards for the low income subsidies. Since States are given a 100% federal match, there is nothing to discourage them from setting loose standards that allow illegal immigrants to be enrolled in the program.


  3. With the help of the National Council of La Raza, House Democrats defeated two amendments offered to HR 3200 that would have added explicit taxpayer protections to stop benefits from going to illegal immigrants.


  4. Senate Democrats promised Friday to include NEW citizenship verification requirements in their health care bill, proving that Joe Wilson was right about giant loophole in the House bill.

Michael Connelly is a Constitutional lawyer and has read the entire health care bill.  He has some comments, not just about the bill, but also about the effects to our Constitution it would have.  It's a much broader picture than just health care "reform."   All of you and those to whom you communicate had better sit up and pay attention; once this sort of thing happens, it will be irreversible.

This blog concentrates on my concerns as an attorney about the imminent and growing threats to our Constitution and our form of government.  We have reason to be very afraid of what is happening.

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE HEALTH CARE BILL



Well, I have done it!  I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: fhe Affordable Health Care Choices Act of  2009.  I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law.  I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional.  What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected.

To begin with, much of what has been said about the bill and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and  the media are saying.  The bill does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

The bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business and put everyone into a government-run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made  by federal bureaucrats, and most of them will not be health care  professionals.  Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and  allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled.

However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices.  Instead, it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated.  If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed. 

The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government.  The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people and the businesses they own.  The irony is that the Congress doesn't have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with.  I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.

The paragraph below is really frightening.

This legislation also provides for access by the appointees of the Obama administration of all of your personal health care  information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital.  All of this is a direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures.  You can also forget about the right to privacy.  That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide.

If you decide not to have health care insurance or if you have private insurance that is not deemed "acceptable" to the "Health Choices Administrator" appointed by Obama, there will be a tax  imposed on you.  It is called a "tax" instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment.  However, that doesn't work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without due process of law.

So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much out the original ten in the Bill of Rights that are effectively nullified by this law.  It doesn't stop there, though.  The 9th Amendment provides, "The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."  The 10th Amendment states,  "The powers not delegated to the
United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people."  Under the provisions of this proposed bill, neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control.

I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea.  This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights.  Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to "be bound by oath or affirmation" to support the Constitution.  If I were a member of  Congress, I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation.  If I voted for it anyway, I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.

Poll: Americans Confused About Healthcare

Nearly 7 in 10 adults polled by CBS News say they are confused about how healthcare reforms would work.

Sixty percent of those surveyed said President Barack Obama has not explained his healthcare plans clearly, and 67 percent said they found the reform proposals confusing.

Only 36 percent of respondents believe that the government would do a better job of providing healthcare insurance than would private insurers.

Confusion over healthcare reform could explain why Americans are not eager to see it become law. When respondents in a Rasmussen Reports poll were asked if they would prefer passage of the healthcare bill now in the House or nothing at all this year, 54 percent chose nothing at all. Only 35 percent supported the bill, and 11 percent were unsure.

Rasmussen also found that among those Americans who already have healthcare insurance, only 43 percent believe the claim that they will be able to keep their current insurance plan after the proposed law is enacted.

Summer is coming to an end as is evidenced by the return of children to school, the start of football season and the breezy hint of cooler temperatures to come. Looking at the political calendar, we are nearing the eight-month mark of the Obama administration and their allied, Democratically-led Congress.

So, as Congress sits in recess and the nation braces for the upcoming national health care fight, I thought it an appropriate moment to talk about the future of Republican politics. Not just how we can defeat health care or win more congressional seats in 2010 - but how we develop the coalitions necessary to ensure we are a party capable of standing strongly 10, 20, 50 years into the future. In essence, we must ensure we are a lasting party equipped to defend the principles of limited government, lower taxes, free markets, a strong national defense, and individual rights and responsibilities.

Today, with government spending increasing astronomically, with the prospect of one-fifth of our economy - in the form of the health care system - being turned over to government controls, these guidelines are all the more important. Thirty years ago, my father understood this, and that legacy has passed down to us.

Even as conservatives, we will not always agree, but if we respect those with dissenting opinions, we can grow even stronger in our determination to follow our shared values. Americans are increasingly, and rightfully, growing skeptical of policies that emphasize budget-busting government solutions, as opposed to empowering individuals, families and small businesses. Congressman John Fleming (a Louisiana physician) has proposed an amendment that would require congressmen and senators to take the same healthcare plan they provide us (under proposed legislation they [ those in Congress, our representatives? ] are specifically, curiously & conspicuously exempt.)  
Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go on his Website and click "yes" to sign his petition (very simple - just first, last and email).

An Amendment to Exclude Abortion from Health Care

When Representatives return to Congress in September, they may get a chance to vote on an amendment that would exclude abortion funding from health care reform.  Both Republicans and Democrats have indicated that they would support such an amendment.  However, there is another vote that comes first – a vote on whether Congress will even be allowed to vote on the amendment when the bill is considered.  And leading pro-abortion members have indicated that they are likely to pass a rule preventing a vote on the amendment.  The pattern we see again here, as so often in the past, is that abortion supporters don’t want to debate their position in a fair way; rather, they want to shut down legitimate debate to get their way.  It’s one of many signs that they are wrong. – Fr. Senior citizens who went to a meeting sponsored by AARP were left to themselves after the AARP hostess walked out. The seniors were trying to get answers concerning ObamaCare and why AARP would support a government controlled health system that many believe would lead to euthanasia and rationing of health care. Why would AARP, the nation's largest seniors group, supposedly working for the elderly, support an ObamaCare bill? Here is what Dick Morris, former advisor to President Clinton, said: "The interest groups that usually speak up for the elderly, particularly AARP, are in Obama's pocket, hoping to profit from his program by becoming one of its vendors. o'tax'n spend o'bamacare (more debt & taxes for you)

o'tax'n spend's health plan legislation, as of today, is reported to be 1018 pages long [before last minute amendments that'll be snuck in at the last minute in the middle of the night] and according to most estimates if federal health care is passed, it will cost a minimum of one trillion dollars ($1,000,000,000,000.00) which figures out to cost Americans one billion dollars ($1,000,000,000.00) per printed page!

Coupled with the other o'bamanomics spending sprees, the average tax bite will exceed 50% of your total income if you live in one of 37 states and as much as 57% or more in some other states!

The Congressional Budget Office reports that o'bamacare will actually far exceed Obama/Reid/Pelosi liberal Democrats' estimates in its total costs to America during it's 1st ten (10) years ...possibly as much as one trillion 600 billion dollars ($1,600,000,000,000.00) and, estimates beyond indicate that the U.S. economy can not sustain the debt!

Adding injury to an already insult, the o'bamacare plan has a provision that could outlaw private medical insurance coverage for all Americans. "Under the Orwellian header of "Protecting The Choice To Keep Current Coverage," the "Limitation On New Enrollment" section of the bill clearly states: "Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day" of the year the legislation becomes law."
