     "The Arizona sheriff investigating the Tucson shooting that left U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords critically wounded had harsh words today for those engaging in political rhetoric, calling conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh "irresponsible" for continuing the vitriol.

     "The kind of rhetoric that flows from people like Rush Limbaugh, in my judgment he is irresponsible, uses partial information, sometimes wrong information," Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said today. "[Limbaugh] attacks people, angers them against government, angers them against elected officials and that kind of behavior in my opinion is not without consequences."

     Limbaugh today railed against the media and Dupnik for trying to draw a link between the heated political climate and the shooting rampage, calling the sheriff a "fool." But Dupnik stood by his assertions.

     "The vitriol affects the [unstable] personality that we are talking about," he said. "You can say, 'Oh no, it doesn't,' but my opinion is that it does."

     Investigators have yet to determine what motivated 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, described by some as appearing to be mentally unstable, to allegedly open fire on the crowd outside the Tucson Safeway.  However, so far there is no evidence that he has any ties to any political group."

The tragedy in Tucson has shaken us all to the core.  Facts are still coming in, and we all must be careful not to jump to premature conclusions.

But in the wake of this disaster one thing is clear:  We must put an end to the rhetoric of violence and hate that has exploded in America over the past two years.

That's why we're launching a petition calling on every member of Congress, as well as the major TV and cable news networks, to put an end to the hateful rhetoric and all overt or implied appeals to violence.

Here's what the petition says: "I call for an end to all overt or implied appeals to violence in American politics.  We must debate, not hate."

With a large enough response, this petition can help focus the debate on the urgent need to end the rhetoric of violence and hate that has become so widespread over the past two years.

We don't know what motivated the individual or individuals who committed this atrocity.  And, if reports are true, it's deeply troubling that the suspected shooter displayed so many signs of serious mental illness, and our public health institutions failed to respond.¹

But the terrifying fact is that this act of violence falls into a pattern that has emerged over the past two years in America and in Gabrielle Giffords' district in particular.

Windows were smashed at Representative Giffords' district office last March just a few hours after the House vote on health care reform.²  At one of the infamous town hall events in August 2009, a man attending the event accidentally dropped a handgun on the floor that he had been hiding under his arm.³

And violent tendencies have been inflamed by the careless and irresponsible rhetoric of certain political leaders. Sarah Palin's infamous "target list" displayed Democratic districts, including Rep. Giffords', in crosshairs, as if viewed through a gunsight.⁴

In addition, violent imagery was prominently featured during the last election.  For instance, a rally for Rep. Giffords' Republican opponent, Jesse Kelly, was promoted with the following notice: "Get on Target for Victory in November.  Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office.  Shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly."⁵

As Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, speaking from the heart at an emotional news conference last night, said:

There's reason to believe that this individual may have a mental issue.  And I think people who are unbalanced are especially susceptible to vitriol... When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government.  The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous.⁶

Reformers know that the best and most effective way to change public opinion is to SHOW - in pictures - the injustice and brutality of whatever policy it is that the reformer seeks to change.  For example: It wasn't until the news media published PICTURES taken in Nazi concentration camps that Americans fully understood the evil of Adolph Hitler and his Third Reich.  Same with the Vietnam war.  Night after night the news media flooded American living rooms with PICTURES of mutilated children and the body bags carrying dead soldiers.  Wearied of those graphic images of war, the nation demanded an end.  So, too, with America's civil rights movement.  A 14-year-old African American Emmett Till whistled at a white woman.  For that "crime" he was beaten and shot to death and his killers set free.  At the funeral, his mother instructed that his casket be left open so the world could see "what they did to my boy."  The published PICTURE of Emmett Till's beaten and battered corpse changed the nation!  Do you recognize the common element in all three of those reform movements?  I can tell you in one word:  PICTURES!

That's because of the old adage: "A picture is worth a thousand words."  Well, our pictures of the butchered and mutilated bodies of tiny babies are worth more than a mere thousand words!  Without question  ... our pictures have the power to end abortion! 

But only if our fellow Americans SEE them! 

Tragically, the pro-life cause is the first social reform movement in our nation's history that "Big Media" has turned its collective back on.  Instead of working to end the injustice of killing innocent babies in abortion, "Big Media" has allied itself with "Big Abortion" and refuses to show Americans the deadly and brutal reality of abortion.  Which again is why it falls to us to SHOW our fellow Americans the truth and sheer brutality of what "choice" really means.

And that is precisely what Gospel of Life Ministries is doing through ... Our "Is This What You Mean?"       Life Decisions International (LDI) has released a revised edition of The Boycott List, which identifies corporations that support of Planned Parenthood, the world's primary abortion-advocacy group.
      "As a direct result of the commitment, action and prayers of pro-family people, at least 256 corporations have stopped funding Planned Parenthood," said Kenneth C. Garvey, LDI's Director of Communications. It is estimated that the boycott has cost Planned Parenthood more than $40 million since the Corporate Funding Project (CFP) began nearly 18 years ago. "This should serve as a testament to those who thought it impossible to change corporate philanthropic behavior."
      New boycott targets include AOL, Darden Restaurants (Bahama Breeze, The Capital Grille, LongHorn Steakhouse, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Season 52), Franchise Services (PIP, Signal Graphics, Sir Speedy), Hilton Worldwide (Conrad Hotels, Doubletree, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inns/Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hilton Hotels, Homewood Suites), Ignite Restaurants (Brickhouse Tavern+Tap, Joe's Crab Shack), ING (financial services), Kohl's [revised, see top note]  (department stores), Mrs. Fields (cookies), Staples (office/school supplies), Toys "R" Us, and Trader Joe's (markets/supermarkets).

"It is unconscionable that anyone who claims to be pro-life would willingly do business with a company that funds the number one enemy of preborn children," Garvey said.
      The new Boycott List includes a "Dishonorable Mention" section, which identifies charitable groups that are associated with Planned Parenthood and/or its agenda. Groups named in this section include Lions Clubs, the American Cancer Society, Easter Seals, Boys & Girls Clubs, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Camp Fire, Girls Inc., Girl Scouts, Kiwanis Clubs, March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Rotary Clubs, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Salvation Army, YWCA, America Gives Back (formerly [American] Idol Gives Back), and YMCA, among others.
      "This has not been some sort of 'Jesse Jackson boycott' where we make news for a few days and then go away," said LDI Chairman Thomas C. Strobhar. "Corporate officials are learning that those who value life are among the most dedicated people on earth. We will not go away until corporate involvement with Planned Parenthood comes to an end."

.. excerpts: Planned Parenthood’s founder and matriarch, Margaret Sanger in the 1930s ingeniously promoted her ideology that the "unfit" should be prevented from reproducing, "by force if necessary." Since the economic plight of many Blacks placed them and their families in the position of living in an environment that Sanger believed breed "unfit" individuals, her organization zeroed in on the "Negro" population.  Establishing the "Negro Project," Sanger and her cohorts set out to push their birth control agenda which as she writes "is nothing more or less than the facilitation of the process of weeding out the unfit, of preventing the birth of defectives or of those who will become defectives" (The Pivot of Civilization written by M. In November 1939 a "Negro Project" leader feared that the project would be in "a great danger" of failing because "the Negroes think it a plan for extermination." Therefore, "let’s appear to let the colored run it ...." (Gamble memo "Suggestions for Negro Project" excerpted from pamphlet issued by the African American Committee, A.L.L.) Sanger later wrote him back saying, "We do not want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population ..." She goes on saying that use of the Negro minister would effectively "straighten ... any rebellious members."
