o'cap'n tax - You Can Take Away My Incandescent Light Bulbs When You Pry Them From My Cold Dead Hands
Communiqué by Lou Frenzel "You can have my incandescent light bulbs when you pry them from my cold dead hands."
Posted @ 7/26/2011 4:53 PM By Lou on http://electronicdesign.com/Blogs/Communique/tabid/731/entryid/182/Default.aspx
My apologies to Charlton Heston, the National Rifle Association and others who claim the similar expression for guns. They haven't taken away our guns yet, but they are planning to take away our light bulbs. They being the Federal government will begin enforcing a new law that goes into effect January 1, 2012, if Congress does not repeal it. (Fat chance, although some House members did try.) Incidentally, most of Europe is doing the same thing.
The light bulb "ban" is part of the Energy Independence and Security Act passed in 2007. It isn't really a ban as such but it effectively limits the sales of several types of incandescent bulbs (starting with the popular 100 watt bulb) simply because they are too inefficient. More specifically, there is a planned phase out starting in 2012 and extending through 2014. Some special bulbs are exempt such as appliance bulbs, 3-way bulbs and those less than 40 watts or more than 150 watts. The overall push is for light bulbs in general to get more efficient, not only with the CFLs and LEDs but with better incandescent like those with halogen or xenon. The government believes we can save energy and reduce global warming if we get rid of the offending light bulb. It appears that most of us have not been replacing our incandescent fast enough with CFLs to satisfy the EPA. Get ready for a visit from the light bulb police if your house is lighted too brightly. And hide your hoarded stash of incandescent bulbs well.
I doubt that there are too many of us who are not implementing some kind of "green" program to cut energy costs and reduce pollution by replacing these retro lights that have been around since Edison and Swan invented them during the 1870s. Despite being dated technology, these bulbs work great and we are all familiar with them. They are cheap, reliable and readily available. But let's face it, lighting eats up about 8 to 12% of our home energy bills depending upon house size, lighting types, and how frugal we are. Roughly 50% of that home energy is taken by things with motors like refrigerators, HVAC and other appliances. But going with a more efficient lighting solution will save some energy and money especially if everyone does it.
I am already on the way to replacing my incandescents with CFLs. I don't necessarily like it but I am doing it. I now use them in porch lights, ceiling/fan lights, and a few lamps. I still use incandescents in my reading lamps as I prefer the coloring and the fact they are just brighter. That whitish/blue light is irritating, but I guess that's just me. I did recently find a CFL with a more incandescent glow which I am trying out. Not too bad but still not bright enough even in the highest wattage size. There are also no good CFL replacements that I have found for recessed floods and spots which are common in kitchens and some light fixtures.
While the CFLs do save energy, they are much more expensive, at least 5 to 10 times what an incandescent costs. I am sure that those who are less affluent certainly balk at the price when food is more important, even if the CFL is cheaper if amortized over a longer period. Do most consumers amortize their purchases? Of course not.
Other CFL downsides besides less overall light and color are the time it takes to come up to full brightness as well as the declining illumination over time. CFLs also do not work with most dimmers. There are some CFL dimmers but they are not as good as the old fashion incandescent kind. I have also heard that CFLs do not work well in cold environments, like outdoors in winter or in refrigerators.
One big issue is that some CFLs really interfere with shortwave and ham radio communications with a horrible noise spectrum that makes listening impossible. It took me a while to figure that out until my wife turned off a lamp while I was trying to listen one day and suddenly all the radio noise went away. And let's not forget the disposal hazard. CFL disposal recommendations are a real pain and inconvenience. I doubt that most consumers are going to discard a bad CFL with the local disposal facility as recommended. I did break a CFL not too long ago and some of that mercury vapor got free. I didn't die and I have no ill effects from the clean up but maybe it's going to get me later somehow. I am not going to worry about it.
The bottom line is that we are replacing an accepted cheaper product with one that is more complex and expensive and has many downsides. Doesn't seem like common sense to me but I keep reminding myself that it is for the collective good. We all need help with our energy and pollution problems. CFLs are an easy solution, still it seems like a high price to pay. Most consumers are short term vs. long term thinkers as they go for the immediate gratification. They are trading off low price for brighter lights now for the savings over five to ten years.
As for LEDs, they certainly seem to be the best choice as almost any desired intensity and color can be had. But at a price. I have only tried one LED bulb ($20) and it is certainly bright enough although I still could not find the color spectrum I wanted. Even though this bulb will last probably longer than I will, it is still way too expensive for the average person. We can all assume that the LED will be our future as prices abate. In the meantime, enjoy your CFLs. And don't spend all those savings in one place.

And we wonder why OUR government is out of control?! If you cherish what freedom you have left, then watch this. STOP and THINK about it.

o'release'em - "Jail or Nursing Home?"
If we are going to implement this idea, we'll have to hurry before o'who? and the 'National Socialist Democrat Party' conveys the right to vote upon all prisoners and illegal aliens! -- rfh
From: piloto Sent: Sunday, May 23, 2010 Subject: "Jail or Nursing Home?"
HERE'S AN IDEA: "JAIL VS. NURSING HOME"Let's put the seniors in jail, and the criminals in a nursing home.
This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies, and walks, they'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc. and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance. Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.
A guard would check on them every 20 minutes, and bring their meals and snacks to their cell. They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, pool, and education, simple clothing, shoes, slippers, P.J.'s and legal aid would be free, on request.
Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens. Each senior could have a P.C., T.V., Radio, and daily phone calls.
There would be a board of directors, to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct, that would be strictly adhered to.
The "criminals" would get cold food, be left all alone, and unsupervised. Lights off at 8 pm, and showers once a week.
Live in a tiny room, and pay $5000.00 per month and have no hope of ever getting out.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

o'humor - I am the tax man. (video)
"It is a precedent fraught with danger for the country, for when Congress once begins to stretch its power beyond the limits of the Constitution, there is no limit to it and no security for the people... ... the Constitution, to be worth anything, must be held sacred and rigidly observed in all its provisions."
-- Colonel David "Davy" Crockett, member of the U.S. Congress 1827-31 & 1832-35
-- Colonel David "Davy" Crockett, member of the U.S. Congress 1827-31 & 1832-35
History's immortals sometimes offer a glimpse of their greatness in events other than those that granted them immortality.
The following excerpt from an 1884 biography by Edward S. Ellis, "The Life of Colonel David Crockett," reveals how his own rural electorate taught him the importance of adhering to the Constitution and the perils of ignoring its restrictions. "Tennessee militia colonel David Crockett, perhaps best known for his role in the 1836 defense of the Alamo, also served three terms in the United States Congress between 1827 and 1835. Nationally known during his lifetime as a political representative of the frontier, Crockett apparently came by that reputation honestly, inasmuch as he was not above listening to his constituents. ...he was entirely independent and refused to vote to please any party leader."
At the end of the congressional term, he joined the Texans in the war against Mexico, and in 1836 was one of the roughly 180 men who died defending the Alamo. Tradition and diaries of Mexican Officers has it that Crockett was one of only six survivors after the Mexicans took the fort, and that he and the others were taken out and executed by firing squad.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) revealed, coincidently after the o'scamcare vote, that o'who?'s deficit budget spending will exceed the White House & the Socialist Democrat Congress estimates by over $1.2+T and will create an additional $10T in National Debt, above our existing debt, by the year 2020.
The national debt was only 40% of GDP in 2008 but may exceed 95% of GDP by 2010! This will be the highest debt-to-GDP ratio since WWII when it was at a war peak of 110%.

Are there men and women of such conviction to stand for us in to the future?

The current "unfunded debt" now exceeds $108T and our current deficit spending is nearly $13T. Social Security, this month, reached a point at which spending exceeds income. And, foreigners now own more of U.S. debt than do Americans. (sources: many)
o'scamcare will cost Americans in increased taxes, perhaps rationed care, tax paid elective abortions, end-of-life counseling, and create new monthly deductions for extended care which will range between ~ $140 to ~$240 per month per taxpayer and the Gov't included 'taking control' of college loans all in the same bill! The federal government now controls directly or indirectly over 51% of the nation's business. ... Yet the Socialist Democrat Party and the o'tax'n spend White House found it convenient to exclude themselves from the very coverage that they mandated upon the rest of America.
Additional funding for IRS was required to bolster collections (maybe 15K more IRS enforcers) of the o'scamcare penalty provisions, yet not one new doctor was provided for an additional 30+ million people and potentially an additional 12M+ illegal aliens and 4M+ felons. Which is not to mention it as a ploy to try to include them before the November 2012 elections. Coincidences all?

And he has the audacity to display a salacious grin, feigning hope, while transforming America with 'Social Justice' Marxist change as he bounds 'hither and yon' bankrupting the Country!
It would behoove you to read Colonel Davy Crockett, Former U.S. Representative to Congress from Tennessee, David "Davy" Crockett's (1786 - 1836) Famous "Not Yours To Give" Speech

2010 - A 'Party of No' Could Get 'Yes' Votes in November
"The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse." -- James Madison

A winning message for RepublicansIn a Super Bowl pre-game interview, Barack Obama announced that he wants to have a televised meeting with both Republicans and Democrats to discuss ideas about crafting health care legislation. Imagine that -- an open debate with both parties equally represented, hashing out plans and crafting a bill using the best ideas brought to the table. In 2008, Candidate Obama told us that was how health care reform would come to pass in his new bipartisan and transparent Washington. The reality has been far different, though entirely predictable to those who recognized him for what he is: a socialist.
Legislation was crafted not to reform health care, but to put it solely under government control. Deals were made behind closed doors, and yet, even with bulletproof majorities in both chambers, the Democrat Congress has not passed a health care bill.
Now Obama is pretending to play the role of peacemaker, but he views bipartisanship as Republicans submitting to his will. Indeed, he won't agree to scrap the existing legislation and start from scratch, even though the public has made its distaste for the bills quite clear.
House Minority Leader John Boehner has made dropping the current legislation a prerequisite for Republicans to come to the table. It is, after all, a waste of time to debate a bill that's essentially dead. Republicans want to cut costs while Democrats want a health insurance entitlement for all. Both sides want to prevent insurance companies from rejecting ill customers, but Democrats, beholden to trial lawyers, reject the common-sense cost-cutting idea of tort reform, among other free-market measures. Unfortunately, neither side is talking about the constitutional role of government.
Even if the meeting happens, both sides are so deeply entrenched that a compromise is rather unlikely. Besides, Obama may be trying to set a political trap of sorts for Republicans by wooing them to the table, offering them a bad deal, then once again accusing them of being "The Party of No," that mantra so often repeated by his accomplices in the Leftmedia.
Such a label wouldn't be bad, however, considering that the alternative means going along with a plan that would raise taxes, remove competition in the insurance industry, drive down the quality of health care in our country, and add hundreds of billions -- if not trillions -- of dollars to the national debt.
In fact, when combined with advocating fiscal responsibility and constitutional Rule of Law, "Just Say No to Socialism" sounds like a winning formula for Republicans come November. Of course, the GOP would have to awaken from its stupor first.

o'commissar - SOTU: Obama's answer for America: more of me
Jonah GoldbergThat seems to be the defining principle of the Obama administration -- whose response to every problem, every setback, every hiccup and challenge has been, simply, "more Obama."
Indeed, for people who aren't sticklers for political jargon, it will be a shock that last night was Obama's first State of the Union Address, since it was his third formal address to a joint session of Congress. Yet for all of the political déjà vu, what was most surprising last night was the degree to which Obama delivered even more of the same.
In fairness, the president took a French-bath of Clintonism before he took to his beloved TelePrompTer. He doused himself with the scent of the deficit-fighter and trade-promoter. He unveiled a slew of small, easy, applause-gathering proposals and populist appeals that he knows will go nowhere.
He also indulged in a lot of feel-your-pain pathos, trying to connect with the real Americans suffering from the recession and the misdeeds of a "Washington" that Obama seems to think is run by someone other than him.
But the eau-de-Clinton couldn't mask the stench -- and Obama, in his supreme arrogance, didn't really seem to care.
There was no "pivot to the center," no serious accounting for the Massachusetts miracle or his misfortunes. Instead, there was an innumerate, inaccurate and distinctly unpresidential whine -- blaming George W. Bush for nearly all of his problems (leaving out, among other things, that the Democrats have been controlling Congress and crafting budgets since 2006).
The White House insists that the new wave of populism created by Democratic governance is, in fact, the same populist wave that carried Obama to victory in 2008. In other words, Obama was elected president by the backlash against his own presidency.
This novel theory allows Obama to stick to his view that there's nothing wrong with his health-care plan, and anyone who feels differently hasn't heard or understood the president's explanations.
So, he not only implored Democrats not to "run for the hills" on the health-reform bill, but insisted that as "temperatures cool," hot-tempered opponents will, of course, realize they were wrong about the bill.
Obama began his presidency insisting that government is the answer to our problems. A year later, he still believes that the era of big government is upon us.
In the same speech in which he preened over a gallingly gimmicky "spending freeze," the president promised more jobs bills, more "investments" in schools, roads, trains and factories. He even reaffirmed his support for his carbon-tax legislation -- which would send far more jobs overseas than it would create here at home.
But Obama has a bigger problem: Aside from a few throwaway lines of self-deprecation, whenever he grew passionate, it was to blame others.
His predecessor topped his list, of course. But also everyone else who disagrees with him.
Obama insists that Americans need to muster the courage to agree with him, to sign on to his agenda. Just as at Omaha Beach and Bull Run, Americans need to show their mettle. "Again, we are tested. And again, we must answer history's call." That "call" is the call of Obama.
"I never suggested that change would be easy, or that I can do it alone." So come on, you slackers, fall into line.
He decried the politicians who are in "permanent campaign" mode -- the same week he brought into the White House his campaign manager.
Other politicians are vain, cowardly and insubstantial. They need the courage to change. Meanwhile, Obama is great the way he is.
That is the attitude that has gotten the president in so much trouble. And last night's State of the Union speech showed us that change really isn't easy, particularly for the president.

Obama’s Reckless Course Will Drive America Off The Cliff
by TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty
January 28, 2010 -- I once heard someone say that at the heart of liberalism is someone who believes that they know how to live your life better than you do. They know how to spend your hard-earned dollars, they know how to raise your family, etc. “Scratch a liberal and you find a fascist,” he said. In the State of the Union, President Obama and his liberal supporters cheered wildly as he demonstrated that he will ignore the results of the recent Massachusetts election and continue on the same track to more government, fewer jobs and less security for the American people.
Some pundits praised the President’s tenacity while others praised his determination. I don’t believe it is either – I believe it is typical liberal arrogance. He knows better than us what to do, and he isn’t about to let any election results or giant tea party rallies get in the way.
And when a liberal money handout program like the bank bailout and the stimulus programs do nothing and stimulate no one, liberals always have a simple diagnosis – it’s because we didn’t throw away enough money. So, the President proposed another round of government giveaways – throwing more money into programs which do not work. The one thing President Obama will “stimulate” is debt and a dark future of high taxes for future generations of Americans.
Throughout the speech I kept hearing the sound of cash registers going “cha ching" -- racking up more costs for the taxpayer.
I was shocked (and I believe Justice Alito was shocked) when the President took advantage of the presence of the Supreme Court justices seated in the front of the House chamber to lecture them on their recent campaign financing decision which he doesn’t support. Justice Alito mouthed the words “Not true!” for all eyes to see. He was right and anyone who had read the decision would agree with the Justice. But, the President was the only one in the room with a microphone.
In the coming year, I suspect there will be elections which will send similar messages to the President and the Congress. Ignoring the angry concern of the average American man and woman, as President Obama did in his address, will not make it go away, it will just fan it and cause it to grow.
The State of the Union is not good, Mr. President, but the state of our nation’s leadership is worse. Hard-working Americans are not fooled by name-calling and shifting the blame. President Obama and the liberals in Congress have spent the first year trying to pass a socialist health care program which few citizens support. Call us names, ignore us for as long as you can, but voters will have the last word.
Obama says he’s not giving up on his ambitious agenda of socializing our nation and taxing us into oblivion.
Here are a few ways you can be informed and work to slow down Obama's radical agenda:
- The President plans to keep up efforts to ram socialized medicine through no matter what.
- Obama continues to nominate individuals for high posts who are pro-abortion, and pro-gay in their political outlooks.
- The LGBT activist movement is thrilled by President Obama’s commitment to their political goals.
- Democrats hold secret meetings on health care in violation of Obama’s promises of transparency in government.
- Obama promised change in his campaign but after Americans got a good taste of hope and change, they rejected it.
- Obama nominated Chai Feldblum to become a member of the EEOC. Feldblum believes that the gay agenda should trump religious liberty.
- Obama has promised to sign the Employment Non-Discrimation Act into law. It will violate religious liberty.
- Obama’s promise to close GITMO and bring terrorists into the U.S. undermines national security.

Now the U.S. Owes $175+ Trillion Dollars! (25Sep17) Up daily since o'tax'n spend was elected!
"The American Republic will endure, until politicians realize they can bribe the people with their own money."
Click Here for videos, graphs, movie & U.S. National Debt totals.
3 years ago: The Debt ~ $125T+! Then Obama: Up $22T+ in only 3 years! $22T to $26T+ by 2015! Since November 2011 to January 2013 he has added $2 Trillion to the deficit! States' Unfunded: $3.2T+! (Dec10) From Jan'09 the deficit: $10.2T→$14.6T up $4.3T/42%! -- Federal unfunded liabilities total $84 trillion .. equal to 5.7 percent of the present value of all future GDP, which translates into about 31 percent of the long run federal revenue estimate,” the report states. “Thus federal revenues would have to rise immediately and permanently to 24.1 percent of GDP to cover the fiscal imbalance.” (source: http://dailycaller.com/2012/07/16/report-federal-unfunded-liabilities-total-84-trillion/)
Many Americans actually pay $1 out of ever $2 earned to some form of tax while ~50% of people pay no taxes! Do you pay your bills? The Fed takes $3 in and spends $5. Debt per citizen: $51,985 - Debt per taxpayer: $142,513! (13Dec12)
A trillion seconds pass in 31,688 years. At $1/sec it would take 41,194 years just to pay off o'tax'n spend's new Feb12-Feb13 added debt - 538,696 years to pay only the national debt or 4,404,632 years to settle the debt+unfunded liabilities!
"Over the last four years our national debt has risen nearly $6 trillion, and just last week the debt topped an astounding $16 trillion. To put that in perspective, $16 trillion is enough money to fund the US military, along with the military of every NATO country combined… for the next sixteen years! Government spending is projected to hit $3.8 trillion this year alone. Even after every tax dollar paid by Americans has been counted, the government will still overspend by another $1.13 trillion. Every single second of the day our government spends over $12,000. So in the time it takes you to read this article, roughly five minutes, our government has spent $3.6 million. It take four seconds for the government to spend what the average American earns in an entire year." (source: by Tim Phillips 17Sep12 at TownHall.com)
-- Alexis de Tocqueville [Alexis Charles Henri Maurice Clerel, le Comte de Tocqueville] (1805-1859) French historian
The U.S. Deficit in 2007 was $9,007,653,372,262.48
The federal government has accumulated more new debt -- $3.22 trillion ($3,220,103,625,307.29) — during the tenure of the 111th Congress than it did during the first 100 Congresses combined, according to official debt figures published by the U.S. Treasury."

| "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence … From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable . . . the very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference – they deserve a place of honor with all that is good." -- George Washington |

| It has been suggested that o'who?, the clown, and 'those who surround him' are not the bumbling fools they appear to be. Nor are they one of the 'Three Stooges' but rather are shrewd implementation/drivers and fellow-travelers of policies designed to disarm the citizenry & collapse the American economy. Why? o'nocchio's grandiose scheme to "fundamentally transform America" is more than simple campaign rhetoric as can be seen by his use of "enabling acts" to circumvent the Constitution of the United States. As Ollie used to say, "Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten me into." |

"As a nation we have been asleep for years. Lulled by affluence and self-indulgent apathy, our collective awareness has grown dim. This has created an opening for our enemies, one that may ultimately prove fatal. This is the truth and what we do, or don't do, will determine the consequences, for better or worse. It is time to decide." -- truthandcons.blogspot.com
