My confession has to do with political incorrectness.
1) I'm a nationalist. I believe nationalism is the obligation of every citizen, otherwise we might as well surrender national sovereignty? If your allegiance isn't to the ideals upon which this nation was founded, its framing documents, it's principles and process of government, then be honest about it and get the hell out, because otherwise you're just a two-faced traitor and subversive.
Besides, when did the label "nationalist" become a pejorative; connected by definition to chauvinism, jingoism and imperialism? None of those are implicit in the phrase of "taking care of our own" or "protecting what's ours?"
2) I don't give a damn for minority rights. If you choose to classify yourself as some form of hyphenated American, that's your choice, but don't expect me to support the notion of a separate set of hyphenated laws as exclusive privilege to your choice of hyphenated distinction. That is, if you choose to distinguish yourself publicly with special garb showing affiliation with any "minority" group -- religious or otherwise -- I expect you to be required to submit to all the obligations and inconveniences of citizenship as apply to me (including security checks at airports, workplace and public school dress codes, etc.).
Choosing to speak a second language is the prerogative of any individual, but bullshit to my tax money going to pay for official government publications (voting pamphlets, etc.) in any language but English.
Additionally, if I think you dress "funny" in exercising your right of making public display of your affiliation with some subset of the general population then I see it as my right of expression to publicly laugh, smirk or snicker at you as long as I don't make it a public spectacle of intentional ridicule, just as I feel it my right to observe you admiringly if I find your mode of dress appealing.
3) If you are not a citizen but are here legally then you have rights too, as entitlement of law. If you are here illegally then I damn well want you to remain a minority, just as I hope all law breakers will remain a minority. To that purpose I want you deported as expeditiously as possible and with as little cost to my government as possible within the law.
Being the self-professed nationalist that I am I expect my government to take whatever measures necessary to counteract foreign governments in promoting illegal immigration to America, whether that action be through withholding aid, freezing bank accounts, embargos, suit for damages or direct military action.
Sound like nationalism? Well, it is -- and without any feeling of shame.
