Living testament to the necessity and sanctity of self-defense, Mr. Edelman was part of the original group of resistance leaders in Warsaw who decided to stand up for their land and people, and fight back with all they had.
Their battle began with the Germans' forced deportation of Warsaw. Edelman labored with several hundred other freedom fighters to put a stop to the deportation, and to protect those who remained in the Warsaw Ghetto.
Often fighting with nothing but handguns, revolvers and homemade explosives, the Jewish Polish resistance remains one of the best and most moving examples in history of the precious right of self-defense.
