The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) applauded the passage of the pro-life amendment offered by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich) and Rep. Joseph Pitts (R-Penn) which prohibits federal funding of abortion under the health care bill in the U.S. House. The ACLJ has heard from nearly 170,000 Americans who signed on to a petition opposing the federal funding of abortion in health care legislation. "We applaud the pro-life commitment shown by the Democrat and Republican members of the House who voted to approve the Stupak/Pitts Amendment which prohibits federal funding of abortion," said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ. "The passage of this pro-life amendment represents the only bright spot in an otherwise troubling government-run health care package put forth by House Speaker Pelosi. The American people understand that health care should not include federal funding for abortion and we're grateful to Congressmen Bart Stupak and Joseph Pitts for their unrelenting efforts in protecting the unborn. Unfortunately, the leadership in the House has produced a disturbing and flawed health care package that not only fails to meet the needs of most Americans, but interjects an unprecedented level of government intrusion and bureaucracy into health care." Led by Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, the American Center for Law and Justice focuses on constitutional law and is dedicated to protecting the rights of the unborn. The ACLJ is based in Washington, D.C. and is online at www.aclj.org. |
