Democracy:
Involves the government ruling and making laws for the "greater good" of all people, they may abolish personal rights in doing so.  Democracy is government by and for the people.  They may or may not be republics -- that is, government limited by constitution or charter.  The tricky part of "democracy" is defining "the people" and then deciding what counts as "by the people" and what counts as "for the people."  In a sense, that could be considered the content of democratic practice.
Republic:
Involves the government using and abiding by the constitution heavily.  Personal rights are respected and cannot be taken away.  This helps to avoid tyranny and mobocracy (the majority makes laws and governs by passion, prejudice, or impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences.)  Republics are the common and "standard" type of governments found today, not democracies, despite what many people (who may not know the definition of either) think.  Just as democracies may or may not be republics, republics may or may not be democracies. 
The difference between Democracy and Republic:
Democracy and Republic are two forms of government which are distinguished by their treatment of the Minority, and the Individual, by the Majority.  In a Democracy, the Majority has unlimited power over the Minority.  This system of government does not provide a legal safeguard of the rights of the Individual and the Minority.  It has been referred to as "Majority over Man."  In a Republic, the Majority is Limited and constrained by a written Constitution which protects the rights of the Individual and the Minority.  The purpose of a Republic form of government is to control the Majority and to protect the God-given, inalienable rights and liberty of the Individual.

The United States of America is a Republic.

AMMO SCROUNGING WHILE TRAINING Thoughts On Ammo Scrounging While Training Richard Coplin, S.I. Staff Instructor No one can argue that the price of ammunition has increased substantially. The last two years have seen unprecedented cost increases in all areas and ammunition hasn't been spared. What cost just under $100 per 1000 rounds is now often well over $200. The type of training provided by Suarez International is very firearm-manipulation intensive. Multiple drills involving clearing malfunctions and keeping the weapon running result in well-polished skills and a certain amount of ammo dumped into the dirt during the process. The question is: "Is it worth picking the ammo up and putting it back into my weapon?" On several occasions I have witnessed first hand, the problems associated with ammo scrounging during training. As tempting as it is to pick up what you just ejected during a manipulation, I would caution against it. I have seen .40 S&W get into a 9mm pistol, didn't work out for the 9mm. I have seen .223 cause a major stoppage in a 5.45X39 AK. I have seen a 5.45X39 get jammed into the breach of a .223 AK and cause a stoppage requiring the talents of a gunsmith-to-be to get it cleared. There are other examples but you get the point. It can cost time wasted trying to fix a boogered up weapon as well as being potentially dangerous. Additionally, unless one has a back-up firearm for the course, it is possible to become a cheerleader instead of a student for the remainder of the day. What of the cost of the lost ammo if I don't pick it up? My calculations are that it is nominal. In an average two day class I have never dumped more than 50 rounds of ammunition into the dirt during the entire course. Depending on what type of ammunition you bring to training the cost will either be greater or approximately the same but calculating an average of $0.25 per round (I train with Wolf, Brown Bear or Golden Tiger primarily for long guns and Wolf or S&B or Federal for pistols) the cost for the course for simply letting the ammo stay where it fell is $12.50. Even if you were very generous with your ammunition and threw away 100 rounds it would still average out to $25.00. That sum, taken in the context of a course, is nominal and can be balanced out by simply shooting one or two rounds instead of three to five on several drills. There is also the very real possibility of getting some nasty ammo in your gun. I nearly blew up my favorite snubby using the reloads given to me by the family of my recently deceased (former Chief of Police) neighbor. If we are training at a level that does justice to our expenditure of time and money, we will be somewhat pushed to our physical and mental limits. This means that we may not take the time to look closely at what we have scooped up off the ground. Mistakes under these circumstances are not rare. One other downside of ammo scrounging is the likelihood of missing important instructions or those little gems of wisdom that the instructors often give at the end of a drill. Bent over, focused on the dirt is not the most conducive state for receiving information. Bottom line: I would recommend that you let the ammo lay in the dirt, but if you are going to pick up unfired ammunition, keep it separate from your training ammo and sort it out after class, never during training. WHAT REALLY KILLED THE FORT HOOD VICTIMS Hasan was a clear and present danger to America, that was promoted to Major instead of being summarily dismissed. Hasan was a buck that was endlessly passed, lest any of his commanding officers be thought unkind, insensitive, or horror of horrors....a racist. Hasan, a murdering, cowardly terrorist, acclaimed a hero by other terrorists, did exactly as his beliefs demanded....he successfully made war on the infidels. Lessons learned? There won't be any. The lessons of this event are already known by any who would read this, and will be constantly ignored by those who should read it. Get ready for the next one...Mumbai is coming.    What (Really) Killed The Helpless US Military Victims At Ft. Hood. First of all to say the word "helpless" in the same sentence as "US Military" is ridiculous, but there it is. Specially if the sentence is one about the terrorism at Fort Hood, the largest military installation in the nation. The question we need to answer is who killed those american soldiers at Fort Hood. Let's see if we can answer the question without the mental disease of political correctness, or the guts-deficiency syndrome typified by the symptoms of over-tolerance, egalitarianism, and over-sensitivity. First off, Islam killed the victims at Ft. Hood. Islam is a cult of death and violence. Its victims around the world are only at peace when they submit unconditionally to its excesses, or when they are dead. What was it that Hasan said? "We love death more than you love life".  What is reasonable man to make of that? All americans should read Robert Spencer's excellent book - The Politically Incorrect Guide To Islam and the Crusades.  The message that men like Hasan send us is that the only peace-loving muslim is a "muslim in name only". Their religion demands conversion, or subjugation of the infidels. Just as there are CHINOS (CHristians In Name Only) that blaspheme and sin daily, there are MINOS (Moslems In Name Only) that really don't want to hurt anyone....the problem is in knowing which is which. A Christian-in-name-only will not be a threat to society when he goes "devout". What does Hasan's example tell us about a muslim going "devout"?   Whenever I hear someone discussing "tolerance", I would ask them if a Jew could open up a Synagogue in Iran, or if Chuck Smith could hold a Christian church gathering in Syria? No?  Then WE are not the intolerant ones are we? Secondly, the US Government killed those victims. The US Government, in its endless quest for egalitarian, feel-good, political correctness and refusal to name the enemy ignored the fact that we are in fact in a Fourth Generational War  against Islam's desire to take over the world, and allowed this to happen. Had Hasan been a devout Christian that spoke up against homosexuality in the military, he would have been summarily discharged...maybe dishonorably. Instead, as an outspoken radical muslim that kept contact with extremists, and that hated the west and infidels....questions abot him were dismissed, and he was promoted and given choice assignments. Third responsability goes to whomever was in overall command of Ft. Hood.  They are also responsible for the deaths of the victims by denying soldiers the very human right of self defense.  A right, incidentally, that is recognized as soon as one leaves the gates of the fort and enters the land of Texas. What might have happened had Hasan's first intended victim been armed with an M9? How many innocents might have been saved had Hasan been shot to the ground between his "Allah Akbar" and his first shot?  That their silly regulations make no difference at all (and have never made a difference in such events anywhere or anytime) are clearly evidenced by the fact that Hasan brought his weapons on base with no problems or interference. The last responsibility in a long chain of culpability is Hasan himself. The spear point of a Fifth Column alive, and well, and thriving in America.  Allowed to thrive because of an ever-present fear by Americans of being called a racist, or intolerant.  A terror shared even more intensely by every poor brow-beaten government worker in fear of their career. California Citizens' Gun Rights "Terminated"

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of the People's Republic of California, has "terminated" the Second Amendment in his state.

The "Ammo Surveillance Act," Assembly Bill 962, requires California citizens to be fingerprinted and tracked for every single ammo purchase.

By signing AB 962 into law, Schwarzenegger's liberal Hollywood roots are once again showing through.

Yes, the same guy who made millions sporting every weapon known to man in action flicks is mandating gun owners be treated like common criminals for exercising their Second Amendment right.

On top of that, the bill requires all purchases to take place "face-to-face" effectively banning online and catalog sales. Is this what the Founders intended by "shall not be infringed?"

Thank goodness Article II should keep the "governator" confined to California.
